    3. It was especially popular in vacation spots. Here in Texas, professional photographers set up shop near the beaches along the Gulf. You'd pose in your swim suit in his studio before a painted beach scene. It would be printed as a postcard you could send to your friends--proof that you really were at this famous place. THEN, you'd actually go to the beach. 1. Re: [ILVERMIL] Post card question
    2. Yes. I have one with a grgr uncle and his wife in front of a home made quilt that my wife would dearly love to have now. I suspect that the photographer attended various events (fairs and such) and brought various backdrops, some more or less "Sunday" clothes to loan and sold a few photos he wouldn't have sold sitting back in his studio waiting for the door to open. He was John Stone. I have a very touching postcard made for my mom's brother's funeral in about 1908 in Stuttgart, AR. The photographer took an existing picture and removed a circle that included his little blond head and shoulders. That picture was included in with a poem and some vital stat data and put on the postcard backing. My guess is that these were very popular and a way to tell distant family of such a loss. This kid was about 8 years old at death and is still talked about at family gatherings. He was Wallace Golladay. ron -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Feb 1, 2005 11:15 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [ILVERMIL] Post card question This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
