Sorry to butt in here, but I have long wondered why so many folks from Franklin County went to Piggott, Arkansas to get married. There must have been some reason because I have seen it hundreds of times usually for marriages in the 1940s. I once thought perhaps there was a military base there. Peggy Some of my family also went from Stoddard Co. MO down to Piggott. My families in western MO always went to Harrison, Arkansas, probably for the same reason. There were no blood tests or waiting period. Harrison had some assembly line wedding parlors. They provided a preacher, music, decorations, and a witness if needed. Back in the early 1800s some of my relatives who were in Calloway Co. KY before moving to Illinois would go down to marry in Henry Co. TN where there was a "Marrying Tree" that was known far a wide as a nice place to hold your wedding.
