The Goodnight and Johns families moved to Illinois about 1830 where they lived in Bond County followed by Williamson County and Franklin County. Joseph is in the 1830 Census for Bond County near Felix Johns. Some children were married in Union County but I have no indication they actually lived there. A descendant of Felix believes he was a brother of Joseph. Joseph did name a son Felix. I have located Felix in a Giles Co. record in 1825 as well as an older Joseph Johns and a Harvey Johns in 18 teens court records. In 1937 and 1938, Nancy Goodnight and Margaret Ann Johns were married in Union County. Apparently, Nancy Goodnight was under age and the clerk of Union county was in trouble for issuing a marriage license. In response, John Goodnight signed an affidavit saying Nancy had his permission to marry. Joseph Johns was a witness to the document which was signed in Franklin County. The 1840 census of Williamson County has both Joseph Johns and John Goodnight. Other than the marriages, and a statement by Mr. Robbins, I know of no other indication the family was in Union County. It may have been a close place to elope to. It seems likely to me that John Johns would have been born in Bond County, because one of his aunts was married in Montgomery County the year before his birth. The 1835 Illinois State Census is no help since it didn't include the Johns or Goodnight families. I suspect that Felix Johns was one of Joseph's brothers, as well as the older William Johns living in W! illiamson County Illinois and later Christian County, MO.
