Michael, As far as I know Henry Dilday is the only one of that surname that has been placed as present in the colonies in the early 18th century. Henry was born about 1725. He had 7 children born between 1756 and 1772. Henry lived in Gate Co., NC. >From the information below I would surmise that Jesse could have been either Henry's brother or his son. He is listed in the 1790, 1800, 1810 and 1820 censuses of Pitt County. He was married to a woman named Avy or Ivy, who survived him and is listed in the 1830 census of Pitt County. According to a message dated June 29, 2000 which was posted to the Dildy Family Genealogy Forum by Louise Howard Johnson: "There is a Jesse Dilday listed as Claim #543, Edenton District (Gates County), N.C. on March 1, 1782, for 2 pounds. "Also, Jesse Dilday bought and sold land in 1786-1821 in Pitt County, N.C." Was Jesse DILDAY a son of your Henry Edward DILDAY?
