(William Merrit) McDaniel. Family lore goes that he worked on a "boat" on the Ohio River and died 8/13/1905 (age 27) as a result. I know the date is correct for his death. His place of death is listed as Alto Pass, Union Co., Illinois. I would love to know if the family lore is based in truth. Does anyone have suggestions for how I can find out (I've already ordered the death certificate)? Are there newspaper archives?
