"Milk sickness" was the cause of death of a couple of women I've researched. Abraham Lincoln's mother is supposed to have died from it. http://www.nps.gov/abli/plantj.htm One definition: "An acute, often fatal disease caused by the ingestion of milk, milk products or the flesh of cattle or sheep which have a disease known as trembles. It is marked by weakness, anorexia, vomiting, constipation, and sometimes muscular tremors. It is caused by poisoning by white snakeroot and the rayless goldenrod." Legend says the knowledge that white snakeroot was a cause came from a Shawnee woman of southern Illinois. http://history.alliancelibrarysystem.com/IllinoisWomen/files/lg/htm1/lg000003.cfm ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 06, 2005 1:10 AM Subject: [ILUNION] RE: Hospital for the Insane > Hi Jenny :) > The hospital this refers to must be the Anna State Hospital,,,now called > Choate Mental Health.
