Found an online tree that states Nancy Webb married a Samuel Simmons. This is the Nancy in the house of James and Courtney Webb in the 1850 and 1860 census. The Simmons are in the 1870 census of Johnson County living next to a Webb family -------------- Original message -------------- From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: willyb30 > Surnames: Barker, Smith, Webb > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.union > /3734/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I am looking for information on BARKERs in southern Illinois, time period: > 1850-1870. Just a guess here but there is a J Smith in the house in the 1850 census. Seems to me he might have something to do with her last name being Smith in the marriage index. -------------- Original message -------------- From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: willyb30 > Surnames: Barker, Smith, Webb > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.union > /3734/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I am looking for information on BARKERs in southern Illinois, time period: > 1850-1870. Hi - Concerning On-line searching - I'm not selling subscriptions to the premium services - but if you can afford it some are worth it. Ask first on line - some services are strong in one type of records or areas while others are less than robust. Try to find a library nearby that has access to the service you want and try it out. You'll probably get hooked. My experience - I tried a one-month subscription - on the first day I found my Bernhard (from Kornthal, south of Jonesboro) ancestors' emigration information that I had been stumped on for 25 years. On the same passenger list were several Durkheimer relatives and who they belong to. What a treasure! Scaning the on-line census images is also valuable in identifying possible relationships and finding out who GreatGreatGrandma was living with when she was 85 years old. Go to http://www.ancestry.com and click Search in the heading. At the right, under Browse Records|Historical Records|Census, click "US Federal Census". Scroll down, click on the census year and the search page opens. Type in the surname Brock, state of Alabama, and click Search. From their index they give you the name, county and approximate year of birth, but not the birthplace. The index to World War I draft registration cards can be searched at Ancestry, but they list only the registrant's name and county (not the State) of registration and they don't let you see the image. To check where the county might be, one way is to go the http://genforum.genealogy.com and where it says "Jump to Forum", type in "Clark County", or whatever the county may be. This list of children of Willis Tweedy and Malinda A. Davis is compiled from census listings, Jennie's Union County birth record, and online records and postings. 1. Richard Benjamin ("R. Ben") Tweedy, b 20 Jan 1878, d 24 Jun 1943 Jerseyville, Jersey Co IL, bur Limestone Cem, Cobden; m Jersey Co IL 19 Oct 1909 Frances Sarah Wolfe, b Oct 1877, d 1 Mar 1965, bur Oak Grove Cem, Jersey Co IL. No children in household in 1910 census of St. Louis MO and 1920 census of Jersey Co IL. 2. Jennie B. Tweedy (Malinda's second child), b 28 Jan 1882 Ridge Pct, Union Co IL. 3. Nettie Tweedy, b Feb 1885 4. Iva Tweedy, b Sep 1886 5. Leo Clayton Tweedy, b o/a 21 Aug 1890, d 12 Feb 1898, bur Limestone Cem, Cobden. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgssi/obit_1897-1899.htm and http://genforum.genealogy.com/il/union/messages/491.html 6. Lily R. aka Ruth L. Tweedy, b May 1893. Some online lists of Willis and Malinda's children show one daughter named Lily, born in 1893, and another named Ruth, born ca 1897. Ruth's age was apparently interpreted as 13 on the 1910 census, but magnification allows an interpretation of 18, or birth year of around 1892. The names Lily and Ruth do not show up together in Willis' household in the same census. They appear to be one and the same person. 7. Willis E. Tweedy, b Jan 1898 The 1880 census of Johnson Co IL shows Willis and Malinda "Twitty" with son Ben, age 2. In the 1900 census of Franklin Co MO, Central Township, Malinda was listed as the mother of seven children, six of whom were living. Five children were in the household then: Jennie, Nettie, Iva, Lily and Willis E. Tweedy. By 1900 Leo had died, and Benjamin R. Tweedy, b Jan 1878 IL, school teacher, single, was in Franklin County, Central Township, St. Clair village. Malinda's middle name is given as "Alsia" on Jennie's birth record.

Davis, daughter of the John Davis below. Four households removed from Willis and Malinda in Goreville 1880 was this Davis family. Whether they were related to James K. Davis of Cobden I'm not sure. JOHN DAVIS 60 IL IL IL (birthplaces probably not correct) farmer Jane 42 IL TN IL William 18 IL IL IL Andrew 16 IL IL IL Ruth 12 IL IL IL Susan 10 IL IL IL Columbus 7 IL IL IL Dolly 4 IL IL IL James H. 9 months IL IL IL In 1870 Johnson Co IL, living near John Davis, was the family of Henry Davis 55 TN. John was also listed as born in TN. Henry, John and James K. all had sons named William, which might indicate they were brothers and their father was named William. See queries relating to the family of James K. Davis at the Union Co IL Genealogy Forum. John Anderson (no relation to me), submitter of the query at the URL below, apparently has some info on James K's relatives in Johnson County. http://genforum.genealogy.com/il/union/messages/595.html . Terry, Thank you for your comments. She is also in the same row in Limestone Cemetery as Harriet Davis, who would be her mother if I have the correct Malinda. -------------- Original message -------------- From: Terry Winchester <tacticaltal@yahoo.com> > Randy: > > I wouldn't discount the possibility that these two are the same person. Randy: I wouldn't discount the possibility that these two are the same person. The fact that the Dates Of Birth are only two months, to the day, apart, and also that both months (Mar and May) both begin with the letter "M", indicates that there could have been a typo, a misinterpretation in the reading of the bible, or both. Also, what is the publication date of the Bible? Dates entered before the publication date of the Bible indicates that they were added long after the event occurred and the veracity of the information should be taken with care. You should attempt to find corroborating evidence from another source, if possible. This is just one of many different reasons why you might question what's written within. Another possibility is that the stone cutters, or the informants, got the birth month wrong, and it was never discovered. So, if you haven't already exhausted other evidence, please don't totally discount that your Malinda A Davis is the daughter of James K Davis of Union County. ilunion-request@rootsweb.com wrote: Today's Topics: 1.
