I just happened to open the Cemetery Book Requests. Now if I saw lets say Abraham Halterman, died ???? buried Campground Cemetery in the subject line I would open it with enthusisam as he is my ancestor and he is buried at Campground Cemetery. Even if you want a lookup in a book I always have more luck with Who, What,When, Where subject line. I have list of Campground Cemetery, walked it many times, cleaned many stones. One of the trustees told me that sometime bake maybe in the 70's when folks were interested in cleaning up the cemetery some stones were put in a pile, for whatever reason? broken, did not know where they went, probably just a sandstone or rock marker. If the death certificate says buried in a cemetery that is where they probably were buried with a marker or a stone. The stone may not be there. I! will be putting tombstone photos on the ILGenWeb site after Sept. I have Campground Cem photos. Don't take my suggestion as telling anyone how to do thier query , I just suggesting making it more productive for those who read the subject line. He died January 18, 1893 in Stokes Precinct, Union county. I have never seen his name in any listing of graves for that cemetery, nor can I find him at the find-a-grave, interment.com, etc. sites. From the I-57 Anna exit #30 go west on Route 146 about a quarter mile then north on the first county road you come to. This is Campground Road but I do not recall if the road sign will say Campground or have county road number. Travel about one mile north on this road. The church and cemetery are on the east side of the road. What Emerson names are you looking for? There are a few more Emersons at Campground in addition to the two names given in an earlier post. Unfortunately there is no Campground Cemetery in Volume I. Darrel Dexter, the author, published several Volumes (4-5 at least) for other cemeteries in Union County. Perhaps someone has some of the other books. There is, in fact, no Emerson buried at any of the 25 cemeteries in this volume. There is a website (see below) call Illinois Trails which has listed over 50 Union County cemeteries. Campground is not included. Not all cemeteries are populated, and those that are are incomplete. But, there are a lot of interesting things to browse through and you may come across something that might help. The website is fairly new and being updated. I also have an ancestor buried in Campground church and have not been successful in finding its burial records. It has a very interesting history as a site of first camping, then burial, of Cherokee Indians who were traveling through Union county during the winter of 1838-39 on the Trail of Tears. If you google campground church IL or Trail of Tears IL you will get a lot of hits about the site. Some of the graves are lost forever, unfortunately, because at one point a road was build through the middle of the site. If anyone on this board has any further information about the individual graves at that cemetery, I would be most appreciative of it.
