Patti, I checked the MO marriage records and even using Soundex in case of hinky spelling, I didn't find either name in the MO marriage records. I just reread your initial letter and it came to me that you might want to check Alexander County. My in-laws, who were living in Jackson County at the time, rode the train to Alexander County and got married there. My parents married in Sikeston, Mo. although they were from Union County. I asked the question why they were married there and they said it was something people did back at that time. That was 1942. Of course Sikeston is only a few miles from Cape Girardeau, Mo. I am sure that is part of it. My mother was from Johnson county and my father from Union county. They were married in Cape Girardeau, MO. Mary and Patti, That's really good advice. I have found several Randolph, Jackson, Union, Williamson and Alexander family members who went to MO to get married and I think, Patti, you may have hit on the reason - they probably didn't have to have blood tests in order to marry there and it could be that the process was a little more streamlined. Is there any information that might be helpful in identifying where someone from Union County might have gotten married in the 1930's. You know, one of those things were it was easier to cross the border because of no waiting period. Recently heard about someone who went across a border because no blood test was required and they were of a religion that didn't allow that. Immediately bells went off in my head because my grandparents were Jehovah's Witnesses at the time. My situation is that my grandmother lived in Anna, and my grandfather lived in Memphis or Thayer, Missouri. As far as I know they did not live in the same place until they married. But both their families were JW. So I'm assuming that's how they met. I have not been able to identify where they married. Union County has no record. Shelby County, TN has no record. Howell, Cape Girardeau, and Oregon counties have no record. There may be no rhyme or reason, but thought I'd ask if anyone would have any knowledge of why a particular place OTHER than Union might be desireable for marriage. Patti http://hobbits8.net
