    1. 2004 Toler Reunion
    2. Tim Casey
    3. It's time for another TOLER REUNION. make plans now to attend. WHEN? Sunday, September 12th, 2004. WHERE? Dongola Community Center, Dongola IL. Dongola is 9 miles south of Anna, IL. It is off interstate 57, the exit past the Anna exit. There was a severe storm and Jerry and Ann have damage to their property. New for 2004 Registration will begin at 11:00 am, with the meal at 1:00. Come and enjoy meeting new and old relatives, see the exhibits, trade family history and stories. Enjoy visiting under an air-conditioned, kitchen-equipped building, Please bring a meat dish and a dish to pass. The committee will provide drinks. We will be having a regular program this year, with drawings and prizes, announcements, and family news items. We will be electing officers for the 2005 Reunion. This is planned after the meal. WHAT ABOUT SATURDAY? Yes, we will be having our annual Where Is It day on Saturday, September 11th at the McGinnis Cemetery on Route 146 just a couple of miles east of Jerry and Ann's. This is where many of the early generations are buried and seems to be a good place to meet. Come on over around 10:00 a.m., meet under the awning, and swap family history. The relaxed atmosphere lends itself to stories of the first Tolers in the area from which we all descend. Bring notebooks, cameras, tape recorders, whatever. If you want to find a cemetery, or where someone lived or is buried, this is the place to be. Cecil will be there at 10:00 a.m. he will stay until 11:00 a.m. unless there are folks there, he will stay longer. HOW DO I GET THERE? . When you exit off interstate 57 to Dongola, you will go west , past the school and ball parks you will then stop at a stop sign , go straight thru town and you will see a sign Toler Reunion. It probably is not a ? mile from the stop sign. Dongola is a small town of 750 people the community center is in the middle of town , there is a Veach gas station in the middle of town, across the street is a red building, behind this red building is the Dongola Community Center it is a tan building with vinly siding. McGinnis Cemetery is located east on 146 about 3 miles on the left after exiting off interstate 57.

    3. Hope this helps someone. Arizona Genealogy Birth & Death Certificates www.genealogy.az.gov In February, the Arizona Department of Health Services launched this searchable database of 400,000 birth and death records. Arizona's not the first state to put vital records online, but what makes this site special is the ability to download images of the certificates in PDF format. (To view an image, you'll need the free Adobe Reader.) The database contains birth records from 1887 to 1928 and death records from 1878 to 1953. (Later records are sealed.) Talk at me later, Bob C. His parents are buried there but I can't seem to be able to locate him. He died from disease contracted while fighting at the battle of Vicksburg but it seems he did not die at the battle site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA Talk at me later, Bob Crawford Sunny - Tucson, AZ. It's a dry heat, just like our stove oven!

    1. Re: [ILUNION] RE: Trees/Van Zandt
    2. I appreciate help because I am very confused. Royal Trees (son of David Caleb Treese and Barzilla Van Zandt) and my grandfather were definitely cousins per both Royal Trees and my grandfather who are both now dead. My Uncle says that grandpa's mother Nancy Elizabeth Bigler and Barzilla Van Zandt were sisters which is not possible unless Nancy was named Sarah as per the 1860 census. Barzilla was born 11-25-1855 (sourced from marriage license, 1860 census and her tombstone) and Nancy 10-11-1859 (source marriage license, tombstone and obituary). Barzilla's parents were John L. Van Zandt (b. abt 1828)and Elizabeth Brown (born abt. 1832) and her siblings per the 1860 census were Margaret b. 1861 and married Thomas Jefferson Treece; Napolean b. abt 1856 married Bethany D. Turner; Nancy C. b. 1866 m. John A. Turner; Isabelle Izora b. 1875 m. Samuel Cavender; and the only possiblility Sarah who was born abt. 1858 so possibly 1859. The other choice would be that she was a sister of David Caleb which is not physically possible because his mother died in 1854. I could really use some help solving this. Thanks, Cheryl Strahm

    1. [ILUNION] Re: a tragedy
    2. Karla K Walters
    3. I suggest that you look at the microfilm records in the Family History Library for Union County births, deaths, marriages and guardianship, as well as wills, or if these are not available for the 1890's, write to the Union County Clerk requesting a search of the death records. You may learn that this was not murder, suicide, or accident, but another example of children being orphaned by natural deaths. You might also see if there are any local newspapers for the time period in question, once you determine the year(s) of death of the parents. You are fortunate to have found the surviving children living with their grandparents. I found that the three sons of the Walters family, living in Anna, were orphaned when both parents died of natural causes a few months apart in 1884. The father's will indicated that he wanted part of his estate to be spent to erect a suitable gravestone for his wife but does not mention anything about the guardianship of the boys, the oldest of whom was only 14. Because the 1890 census does not exist, I have not been able to trace exactly what happend to the boys, but since I found them as young adults in the 1900 and later census living independently in Columbus, Ohio, I have surmised that they went back to Ohio to live with their mother's parents or aunts and uncles there. Unfortunately, often Internet searches only give us the starting points, such as where relatives were living at a certain time. To find the actual details usually involves hours of research with microfilm. Karla Walters Bellevue, Washington
