Surnames: Redus, Mahan Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Wh.2ADE/1701.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Let me checkwith my cousinon using her picture. I thought we had corresponded on the Confederate side. Washington J's pension file is huge as his second wife lived into the1930s or40s. As you know, both the Mahans and Reduses were families divided. Henry and Alexander Mahan fought for the Union. Their brother Wm Jasper fought for the confederacy. Their sisters Martha and Mary married David R and Washington J Redus. Henry married Melissa Mahan. I don't think Henry went to Union Co, IL. Instead he went to Garland,Arkansas. I made a mistake with the other Redus. It was William M. He went to Union Co, where he died but I haven't been able to prove that he served in the Civil War. I have bits of the pension files scanned so if you want them, let me know! I also believe that this person: Reddish, Thomas J. Pvt Co C, age 26, EN 1/20/63, Corinth MS MI 1/20/63 Corinth, MS, MI 1/20/63 Corinth MS born Fayette Co, AL, farmer, died 5/29/63 in regimental hospital at Glendal! e, MS First alabama Calvafry p 332 is Thomas Redus, brother of David R. I base this on the fact that Washington J used the alias of William J and in fact, he William J on his tombstone. Brother James also died in the Civil War, Ithin heserved in the confederate army but am not sure. Changing back to the Mahans, another sister Rebecca, married William Harrison Mayfield, who also served in the 1st Alabama Calvary. That family went to Franklin Co, AL. I noticed you were researching that area also. Good luck. LInda

I'm now in the midst of publishing data collected along with photos of the Union men of Alabama, when available. I'd love a copy of the photo of your Washington Jackson Redus. I have a pretty thorough sketch of him, but don't have his actual pension papers & don't know his Regiment or Company. I have less data on David R. Redus but do have his Regiment/Co. I have nothing on John M. Redus (not in my database -- please advise how he fits) For Alexander Mahan, I have wives Charlotte Townsend & Cynthia Dillard (Guin), but nothing on Mary J. (don't have her data). 3. Betty: Margaret may have died before 1900 at Eddyville, Pope Co IL. She would have been around 65 if living in 1900, and at least 75 when Frank moved to Union County. One Margaret F. "Fritsch" married David Roberts in Pope Co in 1889. Fred and Margaret's daughter b ca 1873 was named Margaret F., according to the LDS 1880 census transcription. Margaret is not listed in the household of any of her three sons, Andrew J., George W. or Francis M. "Frank" in the 1900 Pope Co census. If she had still been living in 1900 in Pope County, in the household of one of her married daughters whose name would then have been other than Fritch, Margaret should be found in Heritage Quest's index that year, and she is not -- at least not under the spelling Fritch, which is how all three sons are listed. =================== ILLINOIS DEATH INDEX http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/IDPHDeathSearchServlet shows Andrew Jackson Fritch died in Pope Co IL 1916-04-23. History of Alexander, Union and Pulaski Counties, page 125 of the biographical section, says Catherine b 6 Sep 1792 KY and that she survived her husband. They had seven girls and two boys; only two of these children were living in 1883. Jacob was "one of the earliest settlers in the county, living here almost all his life, and for one term was a member of the Illinois state legislature". LDS Ancestral File http://www.familysearch.org gives Jacob's father's name as Mathias Zimmerman (b before 1776, d Dec 1838 Union Co IL), and names six siblings of Jacob. http://gozips.uakron.edu/~agould/HTMLRhoads/fam00226.htm Some info on the Rhoads ancestry at this site. Mentions Sara Zimmerman marrying Jacob Rhoads in Muhlenberg Co KY. The Zimmerman family may have come to Union County from Muhlenberg Co KY with some members of the Parmly, Keith, Hunsaker, Rhoads, Vaught and Kimmel families.
