Wilson died 18 Sep 1896 at his home seven miles east of Anna, was about 67 yrs., was buried in Hall burying ground. He left 4 sons and 2 daughters. Index to obituaries and death notices in the Jonesboro Gazette, Jonesboro, Union Co., Ill. Hope this helps. The only fire I know of was one of the dorms caught fire, but as far as I know no records were in that building. A lawyer might be able to help you find out if it is really that important to you.

If by court order, would they have been made to stay until proven capable of taking care of themself? Were patients free to come and go as they wanted? During the 1950s, did the state pay for the patient or did the patient pay themself? Would it be possible to get copies of the patient's record?

It is located on the east side of New 51 across from the U-PICK Strawberry patch just south of Makanda Road. It is marked by 4 huge Oak trees and sits in a field which does not have a road to it, but one can drive up to it. It is kept mowed by family members and has been cared for; there are some unmarked graves in it and some sand stone markers that have no names on them. Sure wish I knew who they are. Story is told many are babies that died at birth and it was never recorded or the records were burned in a house fire. The Vancil family used to have a record of this cemetery, but how complete it was I do not know. sjp

I stopped at the Gazette-Democrat Newspaper Office and they keep for only 5 years. She told me you need to check with either Southern Illinois University or in Springfield, Illinois. I am with the assumption you wanted only obituaries and not death record. sjp
