I picked this information up on another list. It was news to me and I thought I'd share in case it is useful to anyone. >>Bounty Land Warrants were rewards for military service. But they could be sold by the veteran to anyone and could be sold many times subsequently. This explains how land was purchased with warrants by people who couldn't possibly have served.
