I was given some directions, but would appreciate another version, since I'm coming from out of state. I will be coming to Delavan via St. Louis > Springfield > or however is the best. My plan is to come to Delavan when I arrive after a 7.5 hour trip. Is it possible to get the Gen Societies address and have them copy and mail any info, if I pay for copy and postage fees, so I'll have it before I leave? That would help organize my trip ahead of time. If so let me know, and you can contact me off-list for the specifics on cost, timing, etc. Thanks for the reply, J. Mike, I would appreciate knowing where Prairie Rest Cemetery is. Tradition says my great grandfather, Konke Nanninga was buried in ____ Prairie or Prairie _____ Cemetery but I've never really found his burial site. Maybe this is the one. I also plan to be in Pekin this summer and Tazwell County Genealogical Society is one of the top spots on my itinerary. I figure about a solid week of looking at your resources should do it. :) Dottie Dorothy Nanninga Sewell dsewell@alaska.net Eagle River, Alaska Ostfriesland Ancestors http://www.alaska.net/~dsewell
Dorothy, If you get to Delavan, just get on 8th Street and proceed East out of town - it ends right at the cemetery (which would be on left). Or, here's the directions to Prairie Rest from St. Louis: - Proceed North on I-55 for about 130 miles. - At I-55 Exit 127, bear LEFT (North) onto I-155 for about 15.1 mi - At I-155 Exit 15, turn LEFT (West) onto SR-122 [CR-400 N] for about 3.9 mi - at this point, you'll just be on the edge of Delavan. You should see a sign on the left pointing to the cemetery. If you see the Ford dealer, you've gone too far. - Turn LEFT (South) onto the county road for about .7 miles - Cemetery should be on your right We try to open up special for out-of-towners, so if our schedule doesn't fit yours (see our website), we'll make special arrangements to open up (as long as we have advance notice). Only other cemetery I know with Prairie in it's name is Sand Prairie. Konke seems to be a unique name - is it a nickname? Thanks so much for the directions Mike. I just have this hunch that Delevan could be the answer and I've learned to follow my hunches. Konke Nanninga was my father's name at Christening in Pekin (I have the original certificate) but it was translated to Conrad in English. The name goes back about 7 generations in my Nanninga line. My father was an identical twin to Hank (Heinke) Nanninga and they were uncles to George Weber who was a member of your society for many years. I think Gertrude Renner was a member too and she's the daughter of Hank Nanninga. I think you still have my family tree at your facility although I haven't been there since you moved to your new building. I do a lot of research in the Ostfriesland area of what is now Germany and am always willing to help anyone looking in that area. My web site is shown below. I need to update it but the basic information is still correct and it has pictures of my family taken in Pekin many years ago. Thanks again, Dottie Dorothy Nanninga Sewell dsewell@alaska.net Eagle River, Alaska Ostfriesland Ancestors http://www.alaska.net/~dsewell
