Dear list: I am newly subscribed to this list and just now have rejoined the Tazewell Co. Genealogical & Historical Soc. after an absence of several years. I am searching for information on my Keefer and Phillips ancestors from Tazewell Co. and found reference to both names in the 2000 surname index for the Tazewell Gene. Monthly. I am especially trying to find anything about my great great grandfather, William Phillips. He was residing in Pekin at the time of the 1860 census, house 216--aged 49, occupation farmer--along with Anna (wife? aged 27) and daughters Ester, age 17 and Amanda, aged 15; both daughters born in Ohio. William's older daughter, Louise, was my great grandmother; she was also in the area, having married Dr. Francis Richard (Frank) Keefer in Sept 1855. Frank Keefer was son of Jacob Keefer of Dillon Twp (I was previously lucky enough to find Jacob's grave in Old Sand Prairie/Wehyrich Cemetery). I am trying to find out if William Phillips died in Tazewell Co., married Anna (a second wife?) there, if he was related to the other Phillips family residing there at the time, etc. 2000 references in the 2000 Tazewell Gene. Monthly were as follows-- KEEFER: p.99, p.148. PHILLIPS: p.14, 15 or 16, 24, 80, 124, 136, 142, 148, 170. I am especially interested in what p.148 may have to say, as both names are mentioned. I'd be eternally grateful if someone who owns the 2000 issues could check those pages for me. Or, if anyone else has info about these families, I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance for any help. Sincerely, Susan Carlson
Greetings: I'm a distant cousin of Susan Carlson and also am interested in Keefer related info. Susan and I don't follow the same lines, but we both start with Daniel Keefer from PA who had two sons move to Tazewell Co. around 1839. Those two were Jacob and William. Susan descends from Jacob (1799-1870) and I descend from William (1801-1853). We also have another cousin that descends from both. William's children with his first wife were Henry, Eudica (Utica), Antis (or Antoine), and Maria. His children with Mary Staner were John B., Alicia, Caroline, Mary Jane, Magaret, Jeremiah, William and Louisa. Mary Staner died in 1901 in Pekin. I descend from John B. Keefer. He married Mary Catherine Maloney in Logan Co, lived in Tazewell, and later on moved to DeWitt Co but I don't have dates for most of that. Any info on Keefers or relatives would be greatly appreciated. If you want more info, please let me know. We have gathered quite a bit of info and I just located another cousin in Canada just this week.
