Hazel, From a memo dated 15 Feb 2000 in my files I have reference to a book: "Landlord William Scully" by Homer E. Socolofsky, Lawrence, KS, The Regents Press of Kansas, 1979 I have not read the book but have been interested in the Scully estates as some of my somewhat distant kinfolk have farmed said land for generations. I seem to recall from years ago my Dad relating that the land was purchased by the Scully Estate for a pound or so of tobacco per acre and then leased out (maybe for 100 years)? with the buildings belonging to the farmers, the land remaining in the estate. Rules were made as to crops rotated and the like. Lands in the estates were in Logan County, IL, Nuckolls County, NB, Marions County, KA, Gage County, NB. Hope this helps, Tom Dirksen
