Cheryl, I thank you for finding this. I scanned through my copy of the records, but did not find this entry. I'm sure this is where my entry came from for Joseph and Susannah, but I also show a Hannah Lucas joining in December 1828, and a "Sister Lucas" joining in June 1829. Also Thomas and Sarah Lucas in December 1829. I don't consider this "Susannah" conclusive proof that it is not the same Joseph being dismissed in 1838, as the clerk could have been a little confused, if he was not related, although I agree it may not be too likely. Admittedly, there are some loose ends in the records, - plus, my copy of the records has a gap between 1834 and 1836, actually it appears there is a gap between two different record books. Several things have happened in this time, for example, the pastor Elder Charles Harper disappears from our sight and is seen no more. I took a closer look at ALL the Lucas family in my database earlier today, and will mention that there were the following who were members of Little Flock church in Cass county (the records of which do exist) - John (d. abt. 1859), joined 1840; Mary, joined 1859; Sarah W., joined in 1876; Sarah, joined in 1896; and William, d. abt. 1873, joined 1853. I also show a Peter Lucas as a member of Lebanon Church in Logan County. The other entries are in other areas of the state, except for Lake Fork and Pleasant Grove which we have been discussing. I am compiling some history of the Pleasant Grove Church, from what few sources I have. Since it had 54 members by the mid-1830's, I would hope there might be a deed for a meeting house, which would be another source. Elm Grove and Tremont townships are evidently the most likely candidates for its location. Thomas is a younger brother of Joseph and Sarah Hoblit is his wife. I don't believe the Lucases in Cass County are connected to the Lucases in Logan County. I think the Peter Lucas you mention is from another Lucas family also. He came from another county -- I forget which -- and managed to settle among the Lucases in the Rocky Ford area. He is said to have given the land for Lucas Chapel cemetery although they were burying folks there before he arrived on the scene. The original owner of the land appears to have been Solomon Wood who was married to Phebe Lucas, a sister to Thomas and Joseph above. Wood, Turner, Copeland, Lucas, etc. all came from Greene County, Ohio. If you wish to continue this conversation where it no longer relates to Tazewell I suggest you take it to the Logan [or other appropriate county] list -- the Tazewell researchers probably aren't interested. [If you are, let me know. I'm related to every name mentioned. <g>] Cheryl Rothwell LoganCty@mindspring.com I took a closer look at ALL the Lucas family in my database earlier today, and will mention that there were the following who were members of Little Flock church in Cass county (the records of which do exist) - John (d. abt. 1859), joined 1840; Mary, joined 1859; Sarah W., joined in 1876; Sarah, joined in 1896; and William, d. abt. 1873, joined 1853.
