Greetings, Last week I sent an e-mail volunteering to assist with inputting data for the Illinois Marriage database. Here is the reply that I received: received:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subj: Illinois Statewide Marriage Index Date: 10/18/99 3:20:33 PM Central Daylight Time From: ccali@ccgate.sos.state.il.us To: sam.e.brown@usa.net Thank you for volunteering to help us on the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index. We have received a tremendous response to our call for volunteers. It is now possible to look forward to the eventual completion of this project. I can't say exactly how many of you that we will ask for assistance. The greatest need is for the computer entry of marriages that are not in the index. If you have access to a microfilm reader at your computer, we would find your assistance most useful. We can then send you our software and microfilm of the original marriage registers or licenses for data entry. Otherwise we are required to photocopy from the microfilm to send a volunteer the necessary information, a time-consuming process. If you can use a microfilm reader, please let me know. We are currently upgrading the marriage entry software from DOS based to Windows. We won't arrange any assignments with the volunteers until that task is completed. I believe that this will be completed in the near future and then we will be contacting you regarding the possibility of participating in this project. Again, thanks from the Illinois State Archives and the Illinois State Genealogical Society! Charles L.
