Is there anybody in he Freeport Genealogical Society who can help us remedy this situation or steer us to the correct person or department. Freeport genealogy society has a index of marriages for county, they are just not co-operating SBrown5329@aol.com wrote: > Roger, > I don't know that the county is to blame. Is anyone else getting duplicates of everything sent to the list. I am glad you found something James. I forwarded it from another list last night and had not taken the time to look at it. I knew that some folks were also looking in other parts of IL as well as Stephenson. Lou -- http://www.freeportillinois.com
Lou, I'm not getting any duplicate messages here:-) Nancy NLWOOD52@aol.com
Roger, I don't know that the county is to blame. Most of the other counties either have individual volunteers or the Genealogical society transcribes it as a society project. Sam Brown Benbrook, TX
Lou, I seldom get duplicates from this list. Sam
John, The site that tells about the info for the counties states that there is no info for Stephenson Co. Apparently no-one has volunteered to transcribe the records as of yet. It does say that it is an 'ongoing' project. Sam Brown Benbrook, TX
Sharon, There is a list of counties and it states that there is no info for Stephenson Co. Sam
Hi, Apparently Stephenson Co. does not cooperate very well. When we researched the IRAD (Illinois Regional Archives Depository System) at DeKalb this summer, they didn't have Stephenson Co. either. They had a lot of Ogle Co. records and other counties. I know Stephenson Co. is also very expensive at the Court House for copies too. It's too bad they don't cooperate better. They do have a great History room at the library in Freeport, though. Roger Cramer Peoria, AZ
Hopfully they will be adding to it and including Stephenson County. For those of you looking elsewhere in the state, especially Cook County, it is a fantastic resurce! I found ten previously unknown marriage dates. James Pioch, Jr. jpioch@adams.net www.familytreemaker.com/users/p/i/o/James-Pioch-jr/index.html
Sam, I didn't look at the county list but I know that every name I typed in for ancestors who had lived in Freeport did not appear on the data. Last year I sent to Stephenson Co. for my great grandparents' marriage record, so I know that the records are there. I realize that transcribing them would be a huge undertaking! I too found no reference to Stephenson County marriages. Does anyone know why? Are they still adding to the database, or are the records unavailable for some reason? Regards, John
Sam, That was my first thought when I tried the site! Hi, I was just told about the following database (althou not complete yet) online. Its awesome. Marriage Search ht tp://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/marriage Its great.!!
Sorry, Frank fixed that link and what I did not realise is that he had put a direct link to genealogy on the right side of the front page. This is a first. Frank is a stickler about links working and has me monitoring them weekly. However, we have been doing a lot of upgrading lately. Hope to "see" all of you at genealogy chat this Thursday.
