Can someone help find the death record/obituary of the following individual? Anna Sophia Frerichs * 1/8/1834 + 1868 It is believed that she died in or around Forreston, IL in 1868, but it might have been a year or two earlier. Her last child was born in 9/1863, and her surviving husband was remarried in 1868. Any help would be appreciated. If there is any financial reimbursement needed, please let me know. Thanks. alan :)

Dr. John Daly, Illinois State Archivist, who is largely responsible for the Illinois Marriage Data Project, gave a speech a year ago today which should be noted by anyone interested in family history. The speech is reproduced at the following address: http://www.ancestry.com/magazine/articles/genpower.htm Regards, John
I want to pass on information about the microfilm that the Genealogy Society has purchased from the County Clerk. The cost of the microfilm was $700+. There is no denial by them of these records which include birth marriage and death records mostly pre 1916 (marriages are thru 1924 but are unindexed) and are open to the public for use both at the library and by mail. They are suggesting a $1.00 donation per page for copies and they are very protective that this is a DONATION and not a charge. Please remember that not all records are available because there was/is no record. Don't blame the Society or the Clerk for that. Early birth and death records are few as they wer not required by law. The marriage records are more complete. I suggest you write the Stephenson County Genealogy Society PO Box 514, Freeport, IL 61032-0514 for a listing of what records are available. There are a handful of volunteers of the Society trying to respond to inquires so the responses may be slow. Be sure to include a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope for all requests for information. If there are questions about this process write the Society. <<< <cook.lou@worldnet.att.net> 10/21 10:50p >>> I must apologise to all who tried to join us for the regular Thursday night genealogy chat. We must have been experiencing difficulty with Volano, I will have Frank contact them tomorrow. I did get down and talk to the County Clerk, Vici Otte, yesterday. She tells me that she gave all the old records to the Stephenson Co. Genealogy Society and they are supposed to have them at the Library, however, she hasn't gotten there to make sure. As she gets more familiar with the laws and practices, Vici plans to make other records available. However, the genealogy searches are very time consuming for her staff. Maybe we can volunteer to help. I am told that the genealogy society "denies or refuses to discuss" having the records Vici referred to. Since I am not a member I am not privvy to that info. I was also that the Society sunk a bit of change into buying some microfilm of marriage records and those are at the library and they will make copies of those records for $1 a piece. Hello, my name is Mick Rybolt and I am doing research on various families in Stephenson County, Illinois. I am looking in particular into the areas of Winslow, Oneco, Lena and the surrounding areas.....possibly even into Green County, Wisconsin. The surnames I am researching are: ALDERSON, BRADFORD, FRIEDLEY, GIBLER, HEISE, HINDS (CHARLES)(Canada), HINDS (ANDREW), HOWE, JONAS, McNEAR, RYBOLT, SAUCERMAN, VanMETRE, & WECKERLEY. The surnames listed above started with Henry Heisley Rybolt and Elizabeth Jane McNear who were believed to be the first marriage in Oneco Township. Am looking forward to talking to those of you who are also researching these family lines. Thank you. Mick Rybolt Park Forest, Il. AutoMick@aol.com
Greetings, Last week I sent an e-mail volunteering to assist with inputting data for the Illinois Marriage database. Here is the reply that I received: received:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subj: Illinois Statewide Marriage Index Date: 10/18/99 3:20:33 PM Central Daylight Time From: ccali@ccgate.sos.state.il.us To: sam.e.brown@usa.net Thank you for volunteering to help us on the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index. We have received a tremendous response to our call for volunteers. It is now possible to look forward to the eventual completion of this project. I can't say exactly how many of you that we will ask for assistance. The greatest need is for the computer entry of marriages that are not in the index. If you have access to a microfilm reader at your computer, we would find your assistance most useful. We can then send you our software and microfilm of the original marriage registers or licenses for data entry. Otherwise we are required to photocopy from the microfilm to send a volunteer the necessary information, a time-consuming process. If you can use a microfilm reader, please let me know. We are currently upgrading the marriage entry software from DOS based to Windows. We won't arrange any assignments with the volunteers until that task is completed. I believe that this will be completed in the near future and then we will be contacting you regarding the possibility of participating in this project. Again, thanks from the Illinois State Archives and the Illinois State Genealogical Society! Charles L. Hello members; I found several members of my family in the civil war records online at the Illinois Archives site. I have sent for their official records, but wondered if there is any published book on Stephenson Co that might give more personal information on this family. All are interrelated. If you have anything on any of them, I'd really like to hear from you. Thanks much. The parents of all MILLERs mentioned (except as noted) are Walter and Polly (SALSBURY) MILLER, both buried in Illinois, Eleroy cemetery. The parents of all REYNOLDS mentioned are Tertius and Eliza (TALBOT) REYNOLDS, buried at Pine Island, MN. Gaylord D. MILLER--company A 92nd Illinois Infantry--enlisted Erin. May have died in the war. Morris R. MILLER-----company A 92nd Illinois Infantry--enlisted Erin. May have died in the war . Jacob A REBER-------company G 92nd Illinois Infantry--enlisted Kent. Died in the war, married to Janetta MILLER. Garrett E. MILLER---company D 44th Illinois Infantry--no town given--unknown if this is the right Garrett, son of Walter and Polly. Alfred F. MILLER--company E 147th Illinois Infantry--enlisted Kent--unknown if this is another son of Walter and Polly. Edward Payson REYNOLDS--company D 93rd Illinois Infantry--enlisted Kent. Died in the war, and his will indicates he owned some property in Jo Davies Co. Unmarried. Brother-in-law of the MILLER boys. (Sister Abigail REYNOLDS m Salem MILLER, another son of Walter and Polly, who had enlisted in the war in Minnesota, and was discharged without going into battle, after his foot and ankle were frozen---my direct line). Nathaniel BOWKER---company D 93rd Illinois Infantry--enlisted Kent--imprisoned in the war, suffered the rest of his life from this. Married Martha REYNOLDS, sister of the above E. Payson REYNOLDS. As you see, this family suffered great loss in the war, I have heard stories about them all my life, and would really like to know more about them. There were probably other brothers in the war from NY, but I have not been able to track them down, yet. Thanks for any information you might have. Ida B. WIESE Minnesota
SEE you all in the chat room tomorrow night. My car is in the shop tomorrow, but if I get down to the courthouse I will try to talk with the new clerk. Again, see you all tomorrow at 8:00 pm Freeport time. Lou Cook -- http://www.freeportillinois.com/index3.htm

I would be glad to work on typing in Stephenson County marriage records for the statewide index. I live in California, however, so I would need someone to print out hard copies or a copy of the films. For the early records, how many films/records are there? would anybody be willing to contribute toward the cost of copies? Volunteer to help with the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index Volunteers are welcome! The task of entering all Illinois marriages through 1900 is far from complete. Additional volunteers are needed to extract marriage information from county records, to enter marriages into personal computers with software provided by the Archives, or to enter records onto the mainframe database on terminals at the Archives. If you would like to volunteer to assist in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index project, please contact project coordinator Charles Cali to discuss how you may help. Hi, I've been gone a few days and am just catching up on my e mail. The History of Stephenson County book, for sale at Barnes & Noble, undoubtedly is a reprint of the "1880 History of Stephenson County" book. Higginson Books sells reprints of genealogy and family history books, that are free of copyright protection. The B & N price mentioned, is about the price of the 1880 History, if you were buy it direct from Higginson. Their web site address is www.higginsonbooks.com/ Ward Ryan
Information has come to be that some marriage records are now available. You can check with the Stephenson County Genealogy Society. Please be sure if you use snail mail to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelop.
The IRAD records for Stephenson County are limited but no marriage records that I could find.
