3. Hi, I'm new to your chat room, and thought I'd pop in to check it out since I have some ancestors that were born in Stephenson County. I was there for about 15 minutes prior to 8 p.m., and am still there at the time of this writing however I don't see anybody else there. Am I in the right place? I went to your site according to your message, clicked on chat, entered my name and profile, and .... Is there something different that I should be doing? 1. [ILSTEPHE] Elvis and Jimmy Carter????
2. Can you believe this???? Roger Cramer - Elvis Presley and Jimmy Carter Are Related Elvis Presley would have turned 65 this weekend. Many radio stations are paying tribute to "the King" and I have seen all sorts of articles about him in print this week, too.In one note of interest, the RootsWeb Review (http://www.rootsweb.com) points out that "the King" was related to a president. It seems that Elvis Presley and former President Jimmy Carter share a 17th-century German ancestor who might make them sixth cousins once removed.

1. [ILSTEPHE] Illinois Newspapers on Microfilm
2. Hi, I saw this message on the IL list and wanted everyone to know about it. Roger Cramer Peoria, AZ The Illinois State Historical Library will send you a free copy of "Newspapers in the Illinois State Historical Library" which lists the newspapers, locations and dates they have available on microfilm thru inter-library loan. Some counties have newspapers dating back to the early 1800's. For more information see their web site at: Illinois Newspaper Project Main There are also a few old IL newspaper extracts/abstracts online at: Newspaper Abstracts Home Page Newspapers can lead you to valuable genealogical information but you will need to keep in mind that they are considered a secondary source of information as they are not always accurate in their storytelling. And of course unless you have an approximate date of a mention of your ancestor it can be a very tiring task.

1. [ILSTEPHE] Ancestors in Lena
2. Stephen and Deborah Meyer
3. Hi Everyone, I'm new to your list, and I'm searching for my DUNN ancestors in Lena. Joseph James and Elizabeth (Barber) DUNN had 6 children: James, John, Jane, DeWitt, Harriett and Sarah. Joseph and Elizabeth moved from Pennsylvania to Stephenson Co. in 1834. Their son, John (b. 1832), my great-grandfather, married Priscilla Drane, and they had 3 children: Emma, James and Lillie, my grandmother. I know Lillie grew up in Lena. DeWitt's son, John C. Dunn, was president of the Citizens' State Bank in Lena until his death in 1962. His daughter, Helene, was a music teacher in the Lena school system. Helene's cousin, Mary DUNN, taught history and social studies in Lena until her retirement in 1953. Mary also served as treasurer of the cemetery board, president of the women's club, and as a member of the public library board. I also have the obituary for my great-aunt Sarah (Dunn) SAWTELLE which says she was buried in the Lena Cemetery (b. 1834 and d. 1918). Other surnames which have ties to the DUNNs and possibly to Lena are: BABCOCK, FORD, NIXON, HOOKER, HEWITT, KAUFFMAN, VANSICKLE, HECHT, STEELE, PICKARD, HUCK, WESSELS, FOWLER, FENTON. Do any of you recognize these names? If not, can anyone direct me to a good resource in Lena? Does Lena have a historical society? Has anyone recorded the inscriptions on the grave markers in the Lena Cemetery? I'd love to find a living relative in Lena who may give me info on my ancestors. Thank you for any help, Debbie

1. [ILSTEPHE] Re: DAHL FAMILY OF WADDAMS TOWNSHIP
2. Karla Nurnberg
3. Hi, My great-aunt, Catharina Hargens Dahl emigrated with her new husband and his family in 1865. They came from Schlichting in Holstein to Waddams Township. She died between 1870-1873. We are trying to find a death date for her. What churches were in or near this township? They were Lutherans, but they could have attended another Protestant church. Can anyone tell me what cities and towns would be near this township, so that I can find Dahl families to write regarding their family history? Maybe, one of them could tell me, when she died and where she is buried. Thank you. Karla Nurnberg __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
