Yes, you're probably right. Unless the circumstances ring a bell. I've only been able to track them down to a state and an area. Still looking for names. Hi JoAnn, I don't believe anyone will be able to assist you unless you provide, at the least, your parent's surnames. Hi, I'm looking for my Grandmother or her family. This is what I know of them. My grandmother was of Irish and Bohemian ancestry. She was born about 1924. She left high school in her junior year. She was Catholic. She had brown hair, blue eyes, about 5' 3". I believe she lived in the Freeport area. She had 3 children by the time she was 37. Two boys and one girl. One boy and a girl were born in her marriage. She was widowed probably when she was in her early thirties. A few years after the death of her husband she gave birth to a baby boy. Any help in identifying this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JoAnn
Hi Kathie, My G-G-G-grandmother was Elizabeth "Eliza" [Fox] Askey, wife of Ellis Askey. She was born in Pennsylvania, possibly in Tyrone 14 Feb 1824. She and Ellis came to Ridott in Stephenson County from Pennsylvania around 1849. Eliza's parents were John and Elizabeth Fox who were both born in Pennsylvania. She allegedly had some Germany ancestry. Could it be that Lydia and Eliza were sisters or cousins? Hope this can help you somehow. Good luck! Ruth Gibbs Hart was the Author of five books, tracing the lineage of many different families. Just before her death about 5 weeks ago, I received permission to do reprints of 2 of her books on the Harts and the Gatliffs. James Hart and his Wife Elizabeth Gatliff Hart were among the first settlers in Florence Twp. They owned considerable land in Stephenson Co. and other areas of the State. Five of their Sons were in the Civil War from Florence Twp. Two of the Children married into the Best Family, also well known in the area. In spite of this, very little is know about James and Elizabeth. Only what appears in a Biographical sketch. I am seeking any information on this family, or possible a family contact. There was a Family Bible that may be in the possesion of someone in the area. I apologize for the length of this message.-----Ron
Roger- the chat will not work with AOL 3.0 or less than Explorer 4.0. With one person I think she might have been pressing the wrong thing, cause when I walked her through it she got on. You merely go to the front page, and down on the right hand side is the chat room button (it is not up on the middle of the page where the chat is announced) Press that button down on the right side, it will load in the area where you sign in to the chat, on slower modems, it may take a while to load in so wait a couple of min., you will be able to put in your name and where it says profile most folks put in the surnames they are searching, then press chat and you are in. Most nights we have been having 10 to 14 and folks giving each other suggestions as well as good info. We can definitely handle many more, so all feel free to join us on Thurs night. It is central time at 8pm and if there is no one there right at 8 wait a few min, as people including me trickle in. Sometimes I have to kick kids off the puter before I can get on. So when are you going to join us Roger? Lou ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Subject: Gas-Out!! : Last year on April 30,1999, a gas out was staged across America to bring : the price of gas down, and it worked. It's time to do something about it : again. Only this time lets make it for three days instead of just one. : The so-called oil cartel decided to slow production to drive up gasoline : prices. Let's see how many American people we can get to band together : for a three day period in April, NOT TO BUY ANY GASOLINE, during those : three days. : : LETS HAVE A GAS OUT. Do not buy any gasoline from APRIL 7, 2000, : THROUGH APRIL 9, 2000. Buy what you need before the dates listed above, : or after, but try not to buy any during the GAS OUT. : : If you want to help, just send this to everyone you know and ask them to : do the same. We brought the prices down once before, and we can do it : again. : : Come on America, let's stand together. : : WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
I am visiting Illinois very soon and was wondering if anyone could tell me where the following cemeteries are located and perhaps give basic directions to each?! *Ridott Center Cemetery (aka Schleich Cemetery) *State Road Cemetery in Silver Creek Twp *Gund Cemetery *Oakland Cemetery in Freeport Also, if there are other cemeteries close by to these (in Ridott/ Silver Creek) I would be interested in those names and directions to them as well. Thank you for the help and I can't wait to do some family history hunting in the cemeteries! --Lisa, in AZ
This is for LOIS that was in the Freeport chat room last Thursday night. Please send me you e-mail address, I must of copied it incorrectly. I do have info for you. Billie
Lisa, If you go to the Stephenson County site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilstephe/toc.html you can get the locations of all the cemeteries (except the Ridott one) by going to the GNIS query form and putting in the name of the cemetery and then putting in Illinois as the state and Stephenson as the county and Cemetery as the feature type. This will give you the location and if you use the show feature option it will even give you a map. At the same Stephenson County site there is a listing of the county cemeteries and what volume of the Cemetery Inscriptions of Stephenson County they are listed in. These books should be available at the Freeport Library or on microfilm/fiche through the LDS Family History Centers. PS To get a listing (not necessarily complete) of other cemeteries in Stephenson County, follow the directions above but do not put a cemetery name in the feature name area. Good luck Sam Brown Benbrook, TX
Ward I lost your e-mail. Would you drop me a note and anyone else please notice the new e-mail. I cancelled AT&T. This MSN connection appears to be better. Lou
