    1. [ILSTEPHE] Dr. David S. Stiver family
    2. John Rush
    3. Morning listers, I am looking for descendants of Dr. David S. Stiver, a dentist in Chicago who passed away in 1913 and was buried in Lena. David had come to Lena in 1885 and was in high school there for a year. At the time of his death, three brothers were in the Stephenson area, Dr. W. B. Stiver, Dr. R. J. Stiver, and Perry O. Stiver who was, or had been, an owner of the Bulletin, a Freeport newspaper of the 1880's-90's, etc. Another brother, Dr. Thos. Jefferson Stiver, of Lena, also passed away in 1913. I am not related but own a school book that belonged to David when he was at home in Potter Mills, Centre County, PA. in 1870. With several branches of the Stiver family between Lena, Freeport, and Rock Grove at one time, I am hopeful that descendants remain or information about descendants is available in the Stephenson County area. Thanks for any help. John

    3. Julie I just wrote the Rockford M. S. and here is the letter I wrote...I will let you know the response I get. sue Dear Sir/Madam, My name is Sue Schlosser and I reside in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. I am an avid genealogist with all my family ties going back to Freeport, Stephenson County, Illinois. The reason I am writing you is that recently I was loaned an album of family obituaries and news articles relating to my family. In that album there was a front page clipped that brought great interest to me and others who are researching the Stephenson County area. The front page headline says,"44 Freeport Selectees Leave for Induction Center," and it is dated Wednesday 30 April 1941. It has a photo of the 44 men who are leaving for the Army induction center in Chicago and identifies all of them. As a member of the Stephenson County website for genealogy which you can find at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilstephe/toc.html I am writing to ask permission to post the article on the site. I understand there is a copyright law protecting the publication of such news articles unless I have the permission from the originating source. Can you please advise me as to who to write in order to get permission, if it can be granted? I hope to hear from you regarding this and thank you for your time. Sincerely, Susan A. State law did not require registration until 1916 so many marriages were never recorded. >>> csds@lsol.net 09/05/00 15:17 PM >>> I know that there is an index in the genealogy/history room at the Freeport Public Library for marriages and that the licenses are on microfilm there. It was originated in June of '99 (1 year and 2 months ago) and as had 2 updates, with one sorely waiting. I initially put it up as a favor to give them some presence on the web. 2. Susan Schlosser
    3. A few days ago I posted surnames of obits I had from my grandmother's scrap book. I was very happy to send scanned copies. I also came across a photo of 44 Freeport men who were on the way to Rockford for the induction center on 30 April 1941. I am advised that I can not post the photo on the county site because of copyright laws. To scan and send it email would be difficult as it is a huge photo I think. I am listing here the names of the people in the photo as they are identified. If you would like a personal copy of this article, I can get a copy of it and send you one snail mail. I would ask that you send me a SASE and I will make a copy and send it to you. The names are: Julian N. Zahery, Arthur Meinders, John a. Myers, George E. Lerch, Vernon d.
