Listmates, If you know the Catholic parish your ancestor attended (or have a reasonably good idea) and have discovered that an index appears on the reel, http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/cathaid.htm a search is offered by the Belleville Public Library (BPL) to help you get photocopies. http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/BPL.htm The BPL will look in the index for the person. If shown in the index, they will then locate the entry in the parish register. Fee: $10.00 per hour plus expenses (copies at $0.50 each) and postage. My guess (from working with these reels) is it could take about 30 - 45 minutes to do this two-step process for each entry depending upon the parish. Children born of the same parents and found in the same index and register might save some time. The time ,ay vary widely because some of the indexes are buried amongst the registers (which were filmed consecutively). In other words, it is no quick look-up. >You need to know the film roll number to use the list. > The roll numbers can be determined by using this finding aid > http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/cathaid.htm >
