    2. Tom Stevenson
    3. If anyone happens across an obituary from any of the local Illinois papers for Cleon Stevenson, I would be very grateful for a copy. Cleon Stevenson was born July 10, 1909 in Illinois, the son of Edward Andrew Stevenson (1879-1940) and Sadie W. McCauley (1887-1971). He moved north to Ann Arbor, Michigan to work at the Hoover plant there until he returned to Marissa, Illinois to farm. He took care of his elderly neighbors, Irvin and Eva Patton Dunn, who left him their adjoining farm when they died. Cleon married Jewel Tuttle (b. 1912) on April 23, 1930 in Bowling Green, Ohio. Their children are Dean Ornell, Ruby Joann, Lloyd Cleon, Loren, and Dennis. Cleon passed away June 3, 2002, just short of his 93rd birthday. Cleon's father Edward played in a band with his brothers called the Stevenson Boys. They played at parties and dances around the area. Edward moved to Michigan and worked at the Hoover plant in Ann Arbor until his death. His wife, Sadie, returned to Illinois and lived in Sparta. She used to make quilts by hand. She always had a box of chocolates for her great grandchildren, and a quilting frame in the living room. Sadie was the daughter of Archibald McCauley (1851-1920) and Mary Elizabeth Hemphill (1856-1936). Her maternal grandparents, Hugh Hemphill (1822-1919) and Nancy McKenny (1828-1914), came to the U.S. from Ireland in 1867 and lived in Marissa. Sadie's paternal grandparents, Archibald McCauley (1816-1890) and Mary Ann Sands (1826-1891), also came to the U.S. from Ireland. Archibald homesteaded land NE of Tilden, Illinois and it is still in the McCauley family. Cleon's paternal grandparents were Robert S. Stevenson (1821-1888) and Elizabeth Sands (1837-1931). Robert was born in Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland, the son of Michael Stevenson (1798-1884) and Janet Telford (1799-1860). Robert is listed as a harness maker in the 1850 census, living with his parents. Michael brought his family from Scotland to Illinois and received a land grant in Randolph County in 1843. Michael's parents were Michael (John) Stevenson (1761 - ?) of Paisley and Margaret Pollock (1761 - ?) of Barrhead. His grandparents were Robert Stevenson and Christian Reid, married in Low Church Parish, Paisley, Renfrew in 1744. Margaret Pollock was the daughter of Robert and Janet Pollock, married June 22, 1757 in Neilston Parish, Renfrewshire.
