    1. [ILSTCLAI] Michael and William Miller in Hampshire, Hardy Co, WV and Monroe, St. Clair Co., IL
    2. Stephen von Hitritz
    3. I am researching Michael Miller and his brother William. Michael Miller was born on February 28, 1760 in Hampshire Co., VA (WV) (Ref is his 1832 pension record) His brother William was born in 1768, same place. (Ref is 1850 St. Clair, IL census) According to his Rev War pension, Michael Miller served under Gen Arteman, Maj Manaweather, Capt Neal and Lt. Fisher from August 1, 1781 to November 1, 1781 and participated in the Siege of Yorktown. After returning home, he volunteered to serve in the company commanded by Capt. George Jackson and Lt. William White to "protect the frontier and fight indians". He served in this capacity until the end of 1782. Michael Miller m. Mary or Cecillia ??? in the 1790s in Hardy Co. William Miller married Mary Hoffman on February 9, 1796 in Hardy Co. I believe both men traveled to Monroe and St. Clair Co IL in 1797. William and Mary settled in St. Clair Co and Michael settled in Monroe Co. William and Mary had at least one child, Margaretta who married Aaron Stookey, son of Daniel Stookey, one of the original settlers of Belleville. Michael Miller and Mary or Cecillia had at least 4 children of which, Mary Miller m. Emory Peter Rogers in Waterloo (namesake of Peterstown, Waterloo, Monroe Co., IL). Mary died in childbirth in 1828. Their child also died. Sarah Miller m. Jesse Wiswall and had 11 children, one of which, Elizabeth, is my ggggrandmother. In my historical research in Hampshire Co. at the State Library of Virginia in Richmond, I saw evidence of two Michael Millers on the tax lists in the 1780s. This leads me to believe that Michael and William's father was a Michael Miller also. This is only a guess. If anyone can help me fill in the blanks on this family in VA/WV or in IL, I would be very grateful. I particulary want to know more about Capt Jackson and Lt. White in the indian fighting in Hampshire Co. in 1782, and of course if anyone would know of Michael Miller's wife's surname or his parents. Thanks Steve in Quinton, VA
