Daniel Griffith my ggggrandfather lived in St Clair Co. from 1814 until 1828. His probate records listed payment to a person for hunting and searching for Daniel for 19 days. This makes me believe that he may have met foul play. He was mentioned earlier in the Kaskaskia newspaper, so I gather they knew of the Griffith family. I wanting to know, from this newspaper or maybe a newspaper in Belleville , was there a write up about an incident describing his death. Daniel was a trustee, tax collector in the TWP of Silver Creek. He also was an overseer of road work crews in the opening of roadways in this general area. Any help will be appreciated.
