Hi, I'm searching for more information on a soldier from Belleville killed in WWI. Charles Emil Menzke was born August 2, 1891 in Belleville, the son of Ernest Menzke and Elizabeth Schuessler, and died in Belgium at the beginning of November 1918. Ernest and "Lizzie" were married about November 8, 1887 in St Clair County. According to the 1910 census it was the 2nd marriage for Lizzie, and I'm not sure if Schuessler was her maiden name or that of her first husband. Lizzie had other children from her first marriage but only two that I know of by Ernest...Charles and a daughter Elizabeth M born Apr 1894. Ernest died in Belleville October 2, 1931, Elizabeth died sometime between the 1910 & 1920 census, most likely before 1916 as I can't seem to find her in the 1916-1950 online Illinois death index. I'd really like to find a current descendent of George to see about any pictures of him or other details. Charles was single when he was killed so my best hope seems to be to locate a descendent of his sister Elizabeth. Does anyone know what became of her? Could anyone lookup Ernest's obit to see if mentions her married name? Or does anyone know where he is buried, perhaps it's a family plot and Elizabeth is buried there also? Is there a marriage index available for Belleville that covers 1910 to 1920? Would there be an obit for Charles in the Belleville paper? Darren
