List For those interested in funding of some genealogical and historical based projects, I post the following in case you have not seen it on other lists: The proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2006 eliminates the National Historical Publications & Records Commission (NHPRC), the only grant-making body in the federal government with a focus on archives. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), NHPRC's parent agency, will also be challenged to meet demands in other important areas. Anyone interested in signing the Petition has until June 10 to make the initial signature list submitted by the House subcommitte. July 3 is the last day additional names will appear on the bill. [Per Klustens posting on the APG List] SIGN THE ONLINE PETITION The Council of State Historical Records Coordinators (COSHRC) has created an online petition to continue to express to Congress public interest in restoring of funding for NHPRC [National Historical Publications and Records Commission, which is part of the National Archives and Records Administration]. Consider signing this petition and forwarding it to listservs, email groups, organizations, and individuals who might be interested in helping with this effort. It is a quick and easy way for many people to assist. The petition will be forwarded to the House Appropriations Committee and Subcommittee on Treasury, Transportation, HUD and the Judiciary in late May. Access the petition at: <www.savearchives.org> and click on the "petition" button. For more information on NHPRC, see <http://www.archives.gov/grants/about_nhprc/about_nhprc.html>.
