    1. Re: East St. Louis city directories - copies from BPL and StLPL
    2. Diane Walsh
    3. Both the Belleville public library http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/stchome.htm and St. Louis city library have various years of the above directory on film and will make photocopies at cost plus postage - Belleville charges $10 per hour plus copy (50 cents from film) and mailing costs, payable in advance. Can probably copy 4 to 5 directories for one surname in an hour. They can estimate this for you. Here is mailing info http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/BPL.htm St. Louis PL will bill you, limit *might be* 2 directory searches at a time as of 6 months ago but I think is basically limited to 30 minutes. Check with them for policy. At this link http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/using/refcost.htm click Reference to email them your specific request. 1. Re: Ms Gladson and bounced messages
    2. Diane Walsh
    3. To maillisters and Ms Gladson who contacted me privately about a census correction. Some maillisters will prefer to email a reply 'off list'. This is problematic if the message poster has set up their email box to only allow approved email addresses to 'get through'. Ditto for those who email me a query for posting to the USGenWeb pages for St Clair. While blocking is a good way to keep mass mailings from clogging your mailbox, please be aware that any number of helpful people on maillists will not be able to respond to you. In such cases, posting queries to bulletin boards may be an alternate solution. Diane StClairCoord@compu-type.net Maillist coordinator

    3. The boundaries for Ogle Township as outlined at the May 1816 term of the Illinois Territorial County Court, [Illinois State Archives microfilm roll 30-1457, p. 159]:** . . .Beginning on the Bluff on the Madison [County] Line, thence east said Line to Silver Creek[,] thence down Silver Creek to the Mouth of Hays Creek, thence a direct line to Jacob Ogle, Esqr. so as to include Ogle in said Township, thence a direct line to Hendricks so as to include Hendricks in sid [sic] township. . . . I do not have boundaries for subsequent years so do not know how long these boundaries were in effect. It does appear though that these 'township' names gave way to precincts by other names by 1843. Much later [1884] St. Clair adopted the township form of government and the word township is also used as a reference term in the public domain land descriptions... ** The Table of Contents and subject index to these Minutes appeared in the St. Clair Co. Gen. Soc. Quarterly 19:2, 1996 pp. 39-57. Although out of print, the society does offer a copy service for specific pages http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/stcform.htm, and the Belleville Public Library http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/BPL.htm can provide a photocopy of the Ogle Twp description above from the microfilmed Court Minutes. 1. Search past postings here & German-English dictionary
    2. Diane Walsh
    3. Folks, A nifty feature of the rootsweb maillists is its Archived Posts. There are three separate areas within the Archive to help you. 1. The Interactive Search http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl allows you to search a particular list by keyword for a particular year. The Name of our list is ilstclai - enter these letters in the search box, then on the subsequent page, enter a word or words in the Query box, and select the year you want to search. 2. The Threaded Mail Archives here http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ allows you to browse postings by month. Again, the Name of our list is ilstclai 3. If you want to search all mailists at rootsweb by year, try this link: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=ROOTS This search may be particularly good for unusual surnames or specific combination word searches. You need not be on a list to use either of these features. Misspelled and omitted words will limit your success . I could not find a reference in the Interactive Search for a German-English dictionary using the search term dictionary. Although a www.google.com search will probably turn up a few, perhaps someone on the list will share their links. Diane

    1. Walnut Hill Cemetery Transcript
    2. Julia Knudsen
    3. Conni, The Walnut Hill Cemetery was transcribed in 1953 by the East St. Louis Branch of the LDS church. It is on film #0908658 from the LDS microfilm library. I have personally visited the graves of my Great Grandparents at Walnut Hill who were buried prior to 1953 but they were not on the film. I can't answer why so keep in mind that this transcript is incomplete. The County library may be your best bet. Good Luck, Julia Knudsen researching GOSS, HIRSCH, LOMMEL in St. Clair Co.

    3. Conni and all- Walnut Hill burials are abstracted on 3x5 cards at the Belleville Public Library, transcribed from the cemetery's sexton's books into the 1990s. The library also has the Walnut Hill cemetery lot cards (photocopy of) which shows others buried on the same lot (may or may not be related). The librarians probably wouldn't mind looking up 1 (that is ONE) burial by phone - just specify St. Clair County Burial File including Walnut Hill on 3x5 cards in case you get a newer librarian. 618-234-0441 Diane ----- Original Message ----- From: "Conni Braun" <cbraun675@wideopenwest.com> To: <ILSTCLAI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 28, 2004 4:48 PM Subject: [ILSTCLAI] Walnut Hill Cemetery > Is there a transcription of those buried in the Walnut Hill Cemetery?
