I've seen many mentions of how much fraud there was in the allocation of land claims in Illinois, of particular interest to me in the period of about 1785 to 1805. There are many lists of grants allowed, but is there a way to find information about claims that were denied, particularly with reasons, which would give some indication of the amount and perpetrators of the fraud?
Checking to see if this goes through. I've not had any mail off this list for awhile -- and have had problems with some yahoo lists, as well. So -- just checking to see if I get my own mail. Jane, Pearland, TX

FYI- From another List. ============= Hi Everyone, > > We're hosting a new class, coming up very shortly. The class is "Wolf > Bounties & Cattle Brands: Making Use of Lesser-Known County Courthouse > Records in Genealogical Research". > > We all know, for instance, that the Recorder of Deeds records deeds, and > the Probate Court records and administrates estates. They also recorded fines for not keeping > fences up, lists of strayed livestock, hunting licenses issued, and dozens > of other unusual (or even unique) records! > > The class is scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 2005, from 10AM to Noon. > The location is St. Louis Public Library's Central Library, 1301 Olive > Street downtown. The class is free, and parking is free. You do not need a > city library card to attend the class. Registration is strongly suggested. > Please call (314) 539-0385, or email me at mailto:ksmith@slpl.org to > register or for further information. > > So come down and see what you can learn that will help your genealogical > search! Wish to connect with persons researching ... VONDERHEID. Specifically, Anna Barbara ECKERT and husband Valentine Vonderheid (early to mid 1800's). Also, Justine ECKERT who married P. H. KELLER. Not sure if St. Clair or Monroe (or???) for either couple. Marsha St. Louis

I am trying to find some more information on my great grandmothers family . Her name was Thodosia Keen and She married William Eardley 1869 at Hartshill church . The marriage cert. said her father was William Keen and mother Leah (nee Green) They lived at Longport Burslem . I have not been able to find this family on any census . I know she had a sister Eliza and possibly more sib's . Theodosia was born Jan 14 1851 at Burslem . I found the marriage of William Keen and Leah Green on the LDS site . I would think that they would be on the 1861 census . Sonny

I have all the info on Jacob Pees and his family . What I would like to know is if any of the other families moved to Belleville after starting in Port Washington ? Thanks Sonny
My GG Jacob Pees and his whole family came from Baumholder Germany in 1849 and settled in Port Washington Ohio .His father Wilhelm was a farmer . Some time just before 1860 he came to Belleville . He married Fredericka Amlung and raised a family there . He was a Shoemaker by trade and had a shop on Main street . I have not found out why he came to Belleville and I would like to know if anyone else has relatives that came from Fort Washington . I think he would have had to know someone there for him to come there . I don't think there were any Pees family there before he came . Thanks for any help on this . Sonny Eardley
Thanks to Dorothy Falk for this news... This is good news for those of us who use the LDS records for family research. They are planning a massive undertaking to make all of their records available via internet ... free. It won't happen overnight, but it is exciting news. You can read about it at the following web address. http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,605153189,00.html to help out: http://www.ldsindexing.org/
St. Louis Public Library invites you to join us for a special presentation by Tony Burroughs. Many people in the U. S. have both African-American and European ancestors, but finding them can be one of the hardest genealogical challenges. Join us for "Both Sides of the Color Line: Finding Your Mixed-Race Ancestors" as Burroughs helps individuals find those elusive connections. Burroughs, a noted genealogist, is the author of "Black Roots: A Beginner's Guide to Tracing the African-American Family Tree" and is the star of a recent Discovery Channel genealogy special. Monday, September 19, 2005 7PM - 8:30PM St. Louis Public Library, 1301 Olive Street, St. Louis 63103 Free and open to the public. Parking is free. Registration is strongly recommended. Please call (314)539-0385 for registration or further information, or email me at: mailto:ksmith@slpl.lib.mo.us . I hope lots of people can stop by. Mr. Burroughs is a great speaker, and he really does have something that everyone can learn from. You won't be disappointed! I am researching the Miller family in the Lost River area of Hardy Co. My ancestor, Michael Miller, b. abt 1760 along with his brother William Miller, b. 1768, came to Monroe/St. Clair County, IL as part of the Rev Badgeley group. I have visited the Miller cemetery in Hardy County which is in bad shape. I believe that William and Michael's parents were Jacob Miller and spouse Barbara who came from Pennsylvania and are both buried at Miller Cem. Michael participated in the Rev War at Yorktown. His pension application is on file at the Virginia State Library in Richmond. His brother William was a witness. William settled in New Design, St. Clair Co., Illinois. He married Mary Huffman on February 09, 1796 in Hardy Co. They had at least one child, Solomon, who participated in the Black Hawk War in Illinois in 1831. I belive Solomon had two children, Magdalene Miller and Jackson Miller Michael settled in Bellefontaine, Monroe Co., Illinois. He married Mary Cecelia ??? in Sep 1790 in Hardy Co. They had at least 4 children. a. Sarah m. Jesse Wiswall, b. Mary m. Emory Peter Rogers, c. Catherine m. William Ditch. William and Michael had several other siblings from what I am able to gather: Anthony Miller, b. 1755, Hampshire/Hardy Co, m. Elizabeth Chrisman. He had Rev War Service. Abraham Miller, b. abt. 1750, m. Elizabeth Huffman, sister of Mary above. Any help particularly about Jacob Miller, who seems to be the first Miller in the area, would be greatly appreciated. Steve
