While reading in a quarterly published by the Nebraska Gen. Soc., Vol. 1, #1 p. 34, I came across this article that might be of help to someone on this list. It is not a surname I am researching personally, so have no further information. Nancy Giles John GUTHALS; He was born in Marx, Oestfriesland, Germany, 6 Mar 1835. He spent his early days in his native clime. At the age of 24, Jul. 1859, he set sail for America. He located in St. Clair Co., Illinois. On 18 Nov of the following year, he married Mrs. Anteke Guthals, and in 1869 they came to Nebraska, locating on the farm two miles northeast of Talmage [Otoe county. In Oct 1880 Mrs. Guthals died. He was again married, Apr 1883, to Mrs. Louisa Glassmeyer. They resided on the farm until 1903 when they moved to town. He was one who contributed a large sum of toward the building of the new Lutheran church and is a member of the directorate of the church. He now owns 365 acres of land in this community, 60 acres in Thayer Co., and a half section in western Texas. He is the father of seven living children, four boys and three girls. He also has many grandchildren.
Hi! Was just wondering if you had the info from the 1850? I know it doesn't help with the death dates any, but I can get that info for you if you'd like it. Sounds like you may already have it, as it indicates counties of births of the kids. Sally

Paul W., Is your Daniel S. POLLOCK any relation to Ira Eugene "Gene" POLLOCK of O'Fallon, IL? He and his wife are active members of both St. Clair and Madison County Gen Societies. However, I know he was born in Missouri. He would be worth a phone call; I can hook you up if you wish. Listmates A very timely article by Michael John Neil concerns women losing their citizenship when marrying an alien. He also gives other examples. You can read about it on the Ancestry site here http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/news/articles/4944.asp Diane

I am researching my gr gr grandparents Georg RODENMEYER and Elisabeth HELFRICH marriage place and date without any luck. I came across this entry in a set of books Marriages in St. Louis and it is for my step great great grandmother Helferich, Anna Marie to Rodenmeyer, George on 14 Nov 1848. She died 13 months later, according to an article I read, on December 22, 1849 from the chlorea epidemic along with her parents. Their burial place is unknown as mass graves were being used due to the large number of people dying at one time. Sometime later Georg married her sister Elisabeth and I have hit a brick wall each time I have tried to find their marriage date. The closest I came was when I spelled the name phonetically I found one that is similar. A Elisabeth Helfig and George Grotemeyer married 12-31-1849. I went to city hall and found a copy of their license application and tracked down the marriage to Holy Ghost German Evangelical Protestant Church in St. Louis. The only difference on the Church records that I later saw a copy of is the woman's surname was spelled Helfic. What I would like to find out is if it would have been normal at the time and with German customs to get married 9 days after the death? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening? I have a gut feeling these are the people I am looking for and would appreciate any advice anyone can give me on this. Thank you, Bob Pusateri
Hi Diane, I tried to send directly to you, but it keeps bouncing. Received another email that was infected with a virus that had the same subject matter as the other one. the email address is: [email protected] Sande in CA
List Mates I've just posted a new web page to the SCCGS site explaining St. Clair County naturalizations and declarations: the process, extant records and their location, and hints for determining where and when your ancestor may have naturalized. The page is here http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/natl.htm I would like some feed back. Is the layout easily readable? Have I left out anything? What questions are not answered? Please explore all links as you have time. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Diane
Yulondia, I received a message from another list, forwarded from blah, blah, blah, and it lists a link to check for this new virus. It mentions that just opening it would cause problems, it says that usually the subject line read "Hi" or something to that sort. When you open it, it is blank, and the virus is hidden in the body of the message, but can't be seen with the naked eye. If anyone is interested, I will forward this message to you privately. ATTN: LIST MANAGERS I have fourteen (14) e-mails this morning, sitting unopened (unread), from LON & BLANCHE. I have no idea who they are or what LIST, if any, they may possibly have come from. There is no subject listed nor do they show an attachment or address. Do any of you know anything about who they are or if they could be infected. Probably didn't come through a list since there is nothing to indicate they did. Just thought we might be able to determine who they are and warn them about a possible infection, especially since I have 14 and, as far as I know, have never corresponded with them. My virus control is up to date, checked it twice yesterday, but the number bothers me and just wonder if reading one would cause a problem. I know it is to be by attachment only, but with so many from the same person and this day and time, it seems very strange. Thanks for any help, Yulonda
