Would some kind person please look up an obit in the Belleville paper for me for Mildred Overton Macke who died 12/31/2001? I would also like her husband Roy Macke's obit from January 1987, if anyone has access to that kind of information. Thanks, Kathy
You have an address or a ward? There are about 20 sets of images for Belleville City. If someone has access to an index for the 1920 census, I'll pull it for you. Some years ago, a Russian couple was walking down the street in Moscow one night, when the man felt a drop hit his nose. "I think it's raining", he said to his wife. "No, that felt more like snow to me", she replied. "No, I'm sure it was just rain" he said. Well, as these things go, they were about to have a major argument about whether it was raining or snowing. Just then they saw a Communist Party official walking toward them. "Let's not fight about it", the man said, "Let's ask Comrade Rudolph whether it's officially raining or snowing". As the official approached, the man said, "Tell us, Comrade Rudolph, is it officially raining or snowing?" "It's raining, of course", he replied, and walked on. The woman insisted, "I know that felt like snow!" to which the man quietly replied: "Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear!"
I am trying to get information from the 1920 census for a Daniel S. Pollock who lived in Belleville area. Any help appreciated. Paul W.
I need some guidance on where to look and what kind of records to look for. I am doing research in St. Louis, MO on a WINGLER family and have found where a few went over into Ill. I found a marriage on one of the sons in St. Clair Co., on the Ill marriage index site. It was a Nicholas Wingler married Catharine Kolkmann 30 Oct 1883. I have no idea now where to look for any more information on them or their family or descendants. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks so much ahead of time. Beckye
I'm interested in learning more about Imans and Eymans of early Illinois. Abraham Eyman came out from WV in 1796 it seems, exploring perhaps on behalf of a large group of settlers who headed for New Design, many of them suffering badly on a horrendously fateful journey. Abraham settle in that part of Illinois which has been called various things and is now Monroe, though he also migrated toward Bellsville. Quite a bit is known about Abraham, except for where he came from prior to VA and Lancaster, his parentage, etc. Far more shrouded in mystery are other Imans who came to Illinois in early 1800s. Henry and Christopher are listed on the IllTrails site as farmers with stock. One appears in one 1820 census, the other in a second one, and so an amateur's not sure what to believe;-) My line of the family headed to the Northwest in 1850 and helped to settle Oregon Territory. I've done what I could to tell their story at http://www.enthuz.com/friends/family "Imans of Skamania", but I really would value any help getting more specific information about those Imans and Eymans of SouthWestern Illinois. Linda, I believe Ridge Prairie is mostly in St. Clair Co., immediately south of the Madison Co. line. At the following web site, one can search for place names throughout the US. http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form However, in earlier times, it wouldn't surprise me to find the "area" of Ridge Prairie extending further north than the county line. In modern times, I would use the cities of O'Fallon, Fairview Heights, and north "toward" Collinsville. Personally, I would use the old Bethel Baptist Church as one edge, with Ridge Prairie extending WSW toward the bluff. Opps- folks - I goofed. I was in the wrong census. I needed 1910. However, does anyone know how to find folks out of 1920 and you're not sure where they moved, etc, to.?
I tried Ancestry's Online Census and couldn't seem to find ESTL 1920. I'm looking for ED 104, pg 11B, and it doesn't seem to be listed. Does anyone know if Ancestry has completed St. Clair County for 1920, and if it is - where I might find the ED? Thanks Lynn

While doing volunteer data entry at our local library in Ontario, California, I came across this obituary which might be of some interest to someone on this list. This does not relate to any surname that I am researching personally. Nancy Mrs. Gammon Dies In Chino Alvina P. Gammon, widow of Charles B. Gammon and former well-known Ontarian, died early today at the Hawes rest home in Chino, following a long illness at the age of 81 years. A native of O'Fallon, Ill., Mrs. Gammon came to California in 1919 and after five years residence in Long Beach, moved to Ontario, where she resided until 1941, since when she had made her home in Claremont and Chino. Surviving the octogenarian are two daughters, Mrs. William B. Tebbetts, Chino, and Mrs. Charles E. Conn, Webster Groves, Mo.; a brother, Fred J. Postel, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; six grandchildren, Mrs. Thomas Bull and Mrs. Carl Bresnahan, Pomona; Mrs. Edward King, Los Angeles; Mrs. Howard Dyer, St. Louis, Mo.; Charles E. Conn, Jr., Manhattan Beach and Dorothy Lee Conn, Webster Groves, Mo., and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Gammon will be conducted tomorrow 3 p.m. at the Todd Memorial chapel, 570 North Garey avenue, Pomona, with the Rev. Hubert A. Davidson of the Pomona First Baptist church officiating. Entombment will be in Bellevue mausoleum. The Daily Report, Ontario, California May 7, 1948
