    1. [ILSTCLAI] Whitney/Linder marriage record
    2. Laurie Skillern
    3. Listers, I have looked online and have been unable to find when David C. Whitney and Elizabeth Ann Linder were married. Their first child, Ada Levina, was reportedly born Sep. 8 1880 in East St. Louis. The Linder's had been in St. Clair County since at least the 1860 census. Can anyone help or direct me where I can search for the marriage record? Thank you, Laurie Whitney Skillern Cabot, Arkansas

    3. Dear List, Do city directories for East St. Louis in 1909 exist? I am looking for the location of a bakery owned by Albert Lee Lepage (1881-?) son of Joseph Lepage and Catharine Hagen of French Village. This bakery was where my maternal grandparents met and, as a result, were married in 1909. I am hoping that the bakery location is near Albert's residence. Given an address, I might be able to find Albert in census records. I have only a birth date for him. Thanks in advance for any information you may be able to provide. Judy in Ohio

    1. [ILSTCLAI] Village of origination
    2. Frank Geppert
    3. I am searching for the village of origination of my great grandfather (Frank Geppert/Franz Göppert) who arrived at the Port of New Orleans in December 1851. He sailed aboard the MILAN out of the port of Bremen. His records only say Germany and Prussia. He immigrated to the metropolitan St. Louis area. First settling on a farm in Madison County, and later being a saloon keeper in East St. Louis, St. Clair County. He must have had contact with residents of that area before emigrating. I would like to hear from any one whose ancestors emigrated from Germany to the greater St. Louis area from 1840 to 1855. The purpose is to get their villages. This may help me in my search, as his ships passenger list only says Germany. His naturalization papers only say that he was giving up allegiance to the King of Prussia. Thanks Frank Geppert <[email protected]>

    1. [ILSTCLAI] Ripper/ Hoelscher
    2. Hello all! I am looking for any infor mation onm y gggrandfather. His name was Adam Ripper. In the 1870 census, he was in St Clair County (East St Louis) as Jhn. Ad. Repper, along with his wife Caroline and two small sons, John Adam(Nov 1868) and Ferdinand (Jan 1870). We're trying to find info on when they were married, and where the boys were born and baptised. We believe Caroline's maiden name was Hoelscher/ Hoelser, but have no supporting fact. Would like to pinpoint that also. In 1863 Adam's first wife died in Tazewell County, after giving birth to a daughter. He left the area under *mysterious* circumstances. (We believe he was run out of town)He left his infant daughter with his brother Philip S. Ripper. In 1880 Adam was in St Louis, MO where he remained until he died. The Ripper family were Lutherans in Tazewell County, but Adam's branch in St Louis, is Catholic. It's possible, that Caroline was Catholic. We do know that Ferdinand (my ggrandfather) married a VonderHaar, which cemented the Catholic ties. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks HELP!!! lol Trisha Ripper Ripper, Hoelscher/Hoelser, VonderHaar, Luebbers, Blumfelder, Mueller, Gerst, Finder

    1. [ILSTCLAI] PEES, Jacob
    2. Hi! Doesn't look like this unit did a whole lot.... If you are looking for exactly what Jacob did, you may want to order his service record, not to be confused with his pension file. (his widow file twice) This regiment was organized at Camp Butler on Feb 1, 1865, and was mustered in for one year. On Feb 14, it moved for Nashville, Tn. and thence to Chattanooga. It was assigned to duty guarding railroads. On May 1, it was assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 2nd separate division, Army of the Cumberland. It was mustered out, Jan 27, 1866, at Dalton, GA Source: The Union Army, vol. 3 fought one battle on April 1, 1865. Sally Rowe Livonia, MI p.s. there was a good article in one of the Civil War magazines regarding what those units faced, who were assigned to guarding the railroads, etc.....

    2. Diane Walsh
    3. St. Clair county marriages before 1878 should be obtained from IRAD in Carbondale. While the county clerk's office has record books of these marriages, it does *not* have the paper licenses on microfilm and cannot provide a copy. The Belleville Public Library also has the clerk's record books on microfilm. 3. Hi Cheryl, In the Illinois State Marriage Archive, Mathias Sarlouis is listed as Larlouis. You could either try to get a record from the St. Clair Co. Courthouse or write to IRAD in Carbondale, IL. The date according to the record is 08/17/1863. Joyce in Buffalo Grove, IL
