Could someone look up my family on the St. Clair County census records? The 1860 link on the UsGenWeb site does not work. I am searching for George and Josephine Baldus. They lived in the French Village area. Many thanks. Conni in Ohio
I am trying to determine where my 3rd great-grandparents are buried. I know they lived in French Village and assume they are buried nearby. If you have a cemetery index would you please check out these names: George Joseph Baldus died: November 18, 1893 Josephine Baldus died: January 27, 1894 Many thanks. Conni in Ohio
I need help determining whether or not an article printed in The East St. Louis Daily Journal Friday Evening February 1, 1907 is about my grandfather David Case Whitney. It reports that C. L. Whitney a car inspector employed by the Illinois Central Railroad was instantly killed. Problem is C. L. Whitney was David's son and much too young to be working. I am looking for an obit either in the East St. Louis Journal or the Belleville newspaper for David sometime shortly after Jan. 31, 1907. Or was there really a C. L. Whitney? I am not sure where he was originally buried - they did move him to Mt. Hope later but I've been told there is no tombstone. I would really appreciate any information in determining who the C. L. Whitney really was. Thank you, Laurie Whitney Skillern Cabot, Arkansas
Hello to one and all! When I got the "bug" for genealogy, I was delighted with all of the volunteers who looked things up for me and took photos. I've tried to pay back by volunteering here in St. Clair county. I also occasionally make a run up to Greene county as well as Madison. I recently spent some time at the Belleville library finding obits for some families and thought I'd pass along some names I ran across. These are either obits or death notices and I'll be happy to send you the transcript if they apply to your family. NO CHARGE! I do this for FUN! I'm addicted to puzzles. This one is well past the privacy date: Daily Advocate, March 7, 1890 "The wife of Mr. Fritz Wickler, a farmer of the vicinity of Darmstadt, this county, died Sunday evening, aged about 38 years. She was a daughter of Mr. Bernhard Twenhoefel, and leaves surviving her husband and five children. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Darmstadt cemetery." Kranz; Lucille L. McNicoll (nee Rausch); Clara Thies (nee Rubach) -- October 17, 1983 As I said, if you contact me I'll be happy to transcribe these for you. I'll also gladly do more searching for out-of-state folks, including cemetery hunts and photos. However, I don't work on any set schedule as I work full-time on night shifts and also babysit my grandkids (including a toddler) during the day. Happy hunting! Please post I am researching relatives by the family name Hennemann. They lived in the New Athens area from 1800 up until recently when there appears to be no one by that last name available. Some names I have obtained are Adam (1800-1875) and Katharina (1805-1863) Hennemann' their son, Christopher (1833-1892) and wife Anna Maria (1835-1871), The 1860 census lists Adam and Catherine (sp) and three children, Matthew, aged 29, Anna aged 24 and Dora aged 22. Adam married Johanna Lehr (1855-1880)and may have had the following children, Andrew (1857-1902), Adam (1859-1935), Martin (1861-1955), Susan (1865-1950) and Bertha (no dates) Andrew married Mary Meder (1860-1904) in Pinckneyville and had three children, Chris, Ludwig and Frances. Martin married Barbara Wolf (1856-1933), Susan married Jacob Emge (1856-1933). Martin and Barbara had a son Christopher (1909-1986 who married Elizabeth Klien (1913-still alive) and had a daughter Eileen (1913) who lived five days. Some other Hennemann names I have encountered are Andreas (1827-1879) who married Elizabeth Mathes in 1864. A lot of my information is from death books, head stones, census data, etc and may not be from the same family. I would like to hear from anyone who can help me with accurate information. Don Schultz

Does anyone have the 1880 Federal Census Index? I need any Whitney's living in St. Louis or St. Louis County, Mo. Particularly any John's or David's (or J. G / D. C). Here's my problem. I have searched the St. Clair County, IL. census page by page and have turned up nothing on David and Elizabeth Whitney or her parents Alexander and Madalaine Linder. I am now starting to go page by page through St. Louis County, Mo. David and Elizabeth were married in 1879 in St. Louis. I believe Alexander Linder died between 1870 and 1880 and Madalaine might be living with or near David and Elizabeth with her unmarried children. By September 1880 David and Elizabeth were back in East St. Louis where their daughter Ada Levina was born. In 1870 David was listed in the household of his parents and siblings in Meramic Township St Louis County. I have checked and no Whitney's are in that township in 1880. I have accounted for his parents and one brother in 1880 in Illinois. Thank you for any help you might be able to give. Laurie Whitney Skillern Cabot, Arkansas

I have recently received a 43 page family history entitled "Wilhelm DÖRR (DOERR) 1821-1891 Early German Immigrant to St. Clair County, Illinois" which was compiled in 1965 by Florence Young Barnes. His full name was Philipp Friedrich Wilhelm DÖRR born in Sonnenberg, Germany, immigrating to the US in 1837. He married Katharina HOFMANN 26 Feb 1846 Millstadt Zion Evangelical Church, St. Clair Co, IL. If you have a family connection, I would be glad to help if I can. Jan Heiskell
Listers, Are there any records from the riverboats? My Great-great grandfather was listed as ferryman in 1860 and a steamboat captain in 1870. I was wondering if the captains kept logs that might be available on microfilm now. Thank you for any information. Laurie Whitney Skillern Cabot, Arkansas
Seeking info from anyone who was a resident of the above. I was born 8/3/32 in St Johns Hospital, St Louis, Mo. and assume I was taken to the orphanage at that time. I was adopted in 1939. but do remember some things about the orphanage, such as the lake. I remember running off to the lake and being disciplined by a Sister for doing it. My birth name was Eustice Ruby and my birth mother was Josephine Ruby. Would like to hear from anyone who was there or anyone who can give me any info. Thank you.
East St. Louis City Directories begin in 1887 (various years) through well in to the 1950s. There is a 1908-1909 directory on film at the BPL. Their policy (wouldn't take an hour) http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/BPL.htm Diane
