Someone on this list is looking for Schoffras in French Village. Today, I found this burial entry at Holy Family Church, Cahokia: Antoine Schoffra, buried 14 Sep 1835, age about 40[?] years, died yesterday in the little French village. Sorry, no other data. Charly
The microfilm series titled __Descriptions of Census Enumeration Districts 1910-1950__ is designated as microfilm publication T1224 by the National Archives (146 rolls). I would check with your local library and see if Heritage Quest or another facility has copies of this series for interlibrary loan or purchase (neither the book nor the NARA site go into detail which roll holds East St. Louis). Source: Microfilm Resources For Research: A Comprehensive Catalog revised 1996 PS You will need the address your family resided and a map in order to determine which ED they were in. City Directories are available for EStL 1930 at the East St. Louis public library, book form Diane > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <[email protected]> > > Does anyone know what enumeration district most Polish immigrants lived in in > > the 1920 census for East St louis area?? 1877 is a transition period for vital record in St. Clair County. That December Births and Deaths were just beginning to be officially recorded at the courthouse and are few and far between. Marriage registers begin to take on a new look too [1878] and reflect questions asked on the application and license. The courthouse may have the license for 1877 but ordinarily do not for any before 1878. They forwarded all of the paper licenses through the 1976 to IRAD many years ago. IRAD's cost is super cheap compared to the courthouse fee of $10.00 If you specifically asked IRAD for the marriage license in your original request, and, they specifically replied the register was all they had, you may be out of luck. Write IRAD again and tell them you need a copy of the actual paper license from Accession group/record group 6/0008/01, not the index. Can someone on the list tell me if copies of original marriage licenses (from 1877) can be obtained from IRAD or Belleville Court? I received copies of the Marriage Register from IRAD which has a license # listed. Do I need to re-write to them requesting a copy of the particular license # to get more information other than just a name on a register? _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
Another help, for those German church records....... http://www.sacgergensoc.org/sggs-gc.html German Card $3 The German Card, exclusively available from the Sacramento German Genealogy Society, is a handy new German research aid used to simplify German research in libraries and archives. It is a best seller around America since its introduction in the spring of 1995. It is intended to be carried in the German researcher's wallet at all times. The SGGS German Card is a four-panel card, hinged and laminated, that folds up to the size of a credit card. Around the outside edges of the panels are the old script and Fraktur alphabets, showing both upper and lower case, arranged so that you can hold each letter directly under the German word you are trying to decipher. --Celia :o) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Diane Walsh" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2002 9:51 PM Subject: [ILSTCLAI] German language help > Listmates > For those with German roots who might be traveling to the old country - here > is a free online German language lesson > http://german.about.com/library/anfang/blanfang_inhalt.htm > > > >

This is my first post to this list. I have been on the Franklin Co. IL list for a while, but I am branching out finally. I am looking for information about Louis Woods, who was born in Tennessee but I believe raised in St. Clair Co by his father, Benjamin Woods (aka John Benjamin Woods, John Benjamin Woods, Sr). Louis's mother was Elizabeth (Betsy) Winters. Louis married Polly Scott on 21 Oct 1819 in St Clair County. I am really hoping to find a link between Louis Woods and my G-G-Grandfather, Haynes T. Woods who was born in IL around 1832 and married Elizabeth J Robertson 19 Dec 1854 in St Clair County. I am hoping to make contact with others in the Woods family in St Clair County. Diane, Thanks for the information. I have the grantee and grantor names as well as the description. Cheryl Subject: Re: [ILSTCLAI] deed books for St. Clair County Microfilm of the St Clair county deed books are at the courthouse (1790-mid 1900s) with the most recent ones in paper form. Books through D - Z (to about 1858 or so) should be at Carbondale but they will have you use the microfilm first because the books are in dire shape. You need the grantor or grantee name, not the description, to locate the deed in the respective book, however. If all you need is the present day location of the property described below, you would probably be better off with the St. Clair County Plat book The Belleville Library has some but I'm not sure if they have the current year. The St. Clair County Farm Bureau, 1478 E. State Route 15, Belleville 62222 ph (618) 233-6800 sells these plat books pubished yearly for a few dollars - I don't have a current price so check with them if interested. The books list owners by section, township, and range and provide a plat for each township. Diane -----

WARD/KRAFT Does anyone know the parents of Ada Louise KRAFT (b1870-d1963) who married Edgar Allen WARD (b1879 d1941 in Belleville, St. Clair Co., IL). Marriage date 4 Aug 1909 in St. Louis, MO. Did they have any children? Thank you everyone. Are the Deed Books for the county still at the courthouse or have the books been moved to Carbondale. I need to look at deed books and am wondering if a visit to Carbondale would better serve my purposes than the courthouse in Belleville. How would I find the present day location of a piece of property in New Athens. The property is described as the South half of the southeast quarter of the northwest quarter of section 33 township 2 S range 7 west of the 3 principle meridian. Any help is greatly appreciated. Can someone tell me or point me in the direction to find information and dates and maps on the Illinois Central RR. When was the line built that goes through New Athens? Is this part of the original line or is it a branch built later? Thanks to anyone who can help me. Cheryl Jordan Clinton county, Ohio
http://www.calle.com/world/index.html Global Gazetteer This is a directory of 2880532 of the world's cities and towns, sorted by country and linked to a map for each town. ============= This is a cool site! Not only does it give the lattitude, longitude of each town, it also gives the weather and links to neighboring towns (a useful feature when you want to look for church records in the area where your ancestors lived!). The maps are a bit disappointing, as they do not show boundary marks for providences, cantons, districts, and such. I guess you can't have it all! --Celia :o)
Hi fellow listers, I have just uploaded a scanned photo at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hartmann/hartmann-eugene-grade1-pic ture.html (you may have to cut and paste that URL since it's so long) It is a photo of Miss Little's First Grade Class, 4th Street School, Belleville, Illnois. Photo was either taken Spring 1917 or Fall 1918. Only one child, Eugene Hartmann, my husband's grandfather, is identified. I thought maybe someone on this list might have had an ancestor in the class. I will share scanned copies of the picture with anyone interested. Can anyone identify any of the children? ---Celia :o) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Celia Hartmann [email protected] OR [email protected] Researching direct lines in St. Clair Co, IL: HARTMANN, MESSENGER, LANDOLT/LANDOLPH, LEACH, LYON WorldConnect Database: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~celia

Dear Listers, I now have a new e-mail address. It is [email protected] Please inform me if you have any genealogy questions/answers on the above names from SCC. The Christian Wolf in question was found on the 1880 Census, but no longer in SCC in 1900. He died in 1910, but I do not know the exact date nor place and would very much like help with it. I once heard he had been in KS. I am also researching names from Monroe, Co., IL. The names are: ACKER, REIS, ROSCHE, GOEDELMANN. Thanks for your interest. Darlene Acker Burzynski
