I am forwarding this information on from the MILLER List: Gloria =========================================== This a database of census statistics for all census running from 1790 to 1960 You can set variables that you would like to see...such as number of person of English/Welsh Nationality, Irish, German, French, Dutch etc. Total Population..how many families with 1-over 11 members. Found it interesting that in 1790 there were only 4 persons of German nationality in Connecticut, but there were over 110,000 Germans in Pennsylvania. You can also generate a graphical presentation of various data The link is: http://fisher.lib.virginia.edu/census/ Hope this interests some of you Hope Freeman Carnicle -Forwarded from the MILLER List
Sonny, Pam, etc Apparently most of the links on the GAR website at http://pages.prodigy.net/mistergar/garhp.htm no longer work. Using the google.com search engine for GAR, I received thousands of "hits". Reviewing the "hits", I found a list of GAR sites at http://library.morrisville.edu/local_history/sites/gar_post/garlink.html This list includes a hyperlink, with a list of GAR Posts in Ilinois. You might try the google.com search engine for other websites pertaining to the GAR or Civil War information ... in order to minimize your "hits", try to be specific. For example, I searched for GAR +"civil war", and received 17,700 "hits". There are MANY sites pertaining to this subject ... good luck. Art ----- Original Message ----- From: "Arthur J. Hello Robert, I just checked the 1880 census index and found no Seymour Howard listed in Illinois anywhere. But there are a number of HOWARDS living in St. Clair County in 1880. Could he have used another name other than Seymour? Do you happen to have his parents or a spouse that I might be able to connect to in St. Clair County? Hello I am new to the list and I am looking for a SEYMOUR HOWARD in the 1880 census for St. Clair Co. Thanks for any help. Robert Etter
Deaths after 1916 are computerized and searched by surname. Prior to 1916 the deaths are in the process of being computerized. Since a large majority are not in the computer, a computer search could turn up negative. Death certificates were not required to be filed before 1916 and only reached about 90% compliance by then. Certificates were kept after Dec 1877 however. In other words, before 1916 you could have a good date but no record filed. Likewise, the person entering the information into the computer might misread the name--although a date search should help them find it. The best way to assure they have the record pre-1916 is to use the death register index on film at the Belleville Library - it gives a book and page and the register is also there on film. This way you will know how the surname is spelled on the certificate (and hopefully how the clerk read it for computer entry). After 1916 use the microfiche index (statewide) through 1947, also at the BPL. Can someone on this list do a lookup in the 1860 census for a Schmidt family in Monroe Co. They would probably have a Peter and an Anna Maria, or Mary. She would be about 20 Thanks --- Jacquelyn Brant --- [email protected] --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.
Does anyone on the list know how death certificates are filed? Are they filed by date or surname? I have requested two death certificates from St. Clair County Court House several times and each time I receive a negative answer. I have given them the exact death dates and several variations of the surname spelling. Appreciate any information on this subject. Thank you for your assistance. Edna in Arizona
On the index card for pension applications as found on the Ancestry.com web site I found a listing for my ancestor, Bernard Recker. I want to send for the file but cannot clearly read the unit name. It appears to be PIONEER CORPS. (MISC?) U.S. VOLS. The word in ( ) is not clear. Does anyone know what the name of this unit might be? Bernard lived in the St. Libory area during the time period of the Civil War. Thanks in advance. --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Sports - live college hoops coverage
Many thanks to Tom, Char, & Debbie for taking the time to answer my request. You've opened some new doors (an unknown step-son to track down!) and confused me with two sons who supposedly ran away prior to 1880 but are still listed! But I do appreciate it!
