I ran across a reference to sister cities and saw Columbia. IL vs Gedern, Germany and Belleville, IL vs Paderborn, Germany. I am just curious about this and wonder how I can find out more. Is there a reason for these particular pairings? Norm
To anyone who has ever requested a copy of these records from the state archives, keep the faith. After about 3 months and 2 seperate requests I finally recieved my records. My family came thru St. Clair Co. and at least part of them settled in Springfield, IL. I now have a name to search in St. Clair. I am looking for anyone who is doing POLLOCK surname research for the St. Clair area. I had a Daniel S. POLLOCK who lived in Belleville from 1910 to ?. He was borin in PA in 1870. His wife was Margaret O'Brien. The children I know of are: Kathleen, John Charles, Robert and Daniel. Daniel was a miner by occupation. Would there be any info that mining comoanies might have on workers? Any help appreciated. Paul Wright pop3.tranquility.net
The Hoyleton Bank Loan Book 1856 - 1899 has been abstracted for the web by Gloria Dettleff and appears on the Illinois Trails web site http://www.iltrails.org/washington/ . Many Germans are noted. Dear Listers, I have been searching for my Great great grandparents, William D. and Amelia Whitney's death records in Fayette County, IL. but it is possible that they had moved then died in St. Clair County, IL. William, Amelia, daughter Sarah and son James were living in Fayette County in 1880. Amelia was living in Madison County in 1900 with her son in law and daughter, Henderson and Sarah Hall. William's children, Henry and David and their families were living in East St. Louis, St. Clair County, IL in 1880 and 1900. William would have died between the taking of the 1880 and 1900 censuses. Amelia sometime after the 1900 census. I was planning a research trip to IL but circumstances will not allow the trip at this time. I can offer to do some Arkansas or census research in exchange for someone looking this up for me. Sincerely, Laurie Skillern
The site is a nice source of maps, but as far as I can tell the function described -- going from written legal description to a detailed map -- only works for 17 western states, not Illinois! Harold Henderson, [email protected] on the lookout for HENDERSON, MACRAE, DAVIDSON, JOHNSTONE, ANDERSSON, SVENSSON, STENBERG, JOHANSDR.; THRALL, JAMES, FLINT, GEDNEY, SCHRIBER, JOSS, STAUDENMANN; SCHOLES, MILLS, MOZLEY, VAN NATTA, BOREN, COCHRAN, LINHART, BLACK; BASSETT, COON, BLISS, HUMPHREY, BURDICK, CAMPBELL, CRANDALL, DENISON; & more

To find out if your ancestor/anybody was the recipient of a donation land claim, go to: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/patentSearch/ And type in their name. When the name comes up, see where it says "Printer Friendly"...click on that and print out the description of the DLC. THEN, go to: http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/index.htm Instead of the above URL try this one- http://www.esg.montana.edu/ And, type in the Township, Range and Section...and a GREAT description will come up so you can find it...you can even click on the maps that will give you honest to goodness Satellite pictures of the land. I apologize for the second URL not working. I hadn't tried this site before passing it along. Gloria
Does anyone have any knowledge of an accident on a riverboat in about 1852 wherein crew members, including Reis, lost their lives? The person in question was from the Freeburg, IL area and had two young children, a boy named George Reis, and a girl, Elizabeth. Darlene

Dear Listers, I have a birth announcement of the arrival of Gladys Earlene Broun March 16, 1917. Parents sending it were Mr. and Mrs. George Broun, JR. It was sent to a perhaps neighboring farm family between Hecker and Red Bud. If anyone would treasure it, please write me personally. Darlene Burzynski
Greetings All, My grandparents, Charles and Anna Stieg Brennecke were born and lived long lives in Nashville, Washington Co, IL. I became heir to a wonderful collection of photographs that they kept in their home. There are over 160 photos, mostly portraits, taken between 1880-1920. While I recognize some family members, most of the people pictured are unidentified. I know there were family and friends that lived in the surrounding counties and many connections in St. Louis. Over the past couple of years I've had little success with identifying these many people. I placed simple copies of the photos in the Nashville and St. Louis County libraries, hoping that those researching these areas might find them. This hasn't been enough exposure to really make an impact. Now, with an upgraded computer (and some upgraded skills) I have put all the photos on CD and can reproduce same at small cost. I have included a printable introduction and notes page containing the information, dates, etc. that I do know. I am prepared to offer a copy of this CD to every library, genealogical and historical society in the nearby counties. I will also offer copies to any schools that have computer facilities. If there are any suggestions for further distribution I'd be happy to hear from you. At this point I will also offer a copy, free of charge, to anyone with a serious interest. Please contact me privately. Ultimately, I would hope to learn the identities of more of the folks. But the photographs stand by themselves as a unique window into our past and I feel a need to share them. I welcome any comments, suggestions, insights, on a project of this type. I may be preaching to the choir here...I'm sure all you gen. buffs out there understand when I say that these people call to me. This is one way I can answer. Can someone suggest a resource for the addresses of East St Louis parishes that are now closed? Nine are listed on the Belleville Diocesan web page. I have an 1880 address of Madison at S 2nd St and would like to search the filmed parish records of nearby churches -- but which ones? Thanks for any assistance offered. LizD
St. Clair County (IL) Genealogical Society has another new republication of old records available. 'Trinity Lutheran Church Records, Millstadt, IL' containing the Family Register of Early Members of Trinity; Marriages 1848 - 1911 and Burials 1849 - 1927. Also included in the same 65 page book are Holy Cross Lutheran Church Records of Sugar Loaf Township which includes the Family Register of Early Members of Holy Corss and Marriages 1841 - 1896. These records were translated and compiled by Robert Buecher and originally appeared in various issues of the St. Clair County Genealogical Society Quarterly. Most of these quarterlies are now out of print, so the records have been combined into one book. The price for the new book will be $8.00 postpaid.

Someone has been quite gracious to pass along to me photo postcards that I believe fit into my genealogy, but I can't quite put all the pieces together...perhaps someone either knows for sure who the sender and recipient are: POSTCARD 1 - 1907 or 1909 - Photo card from F. Reime, Finished in 1907 or 1909 Photo is of what appears to be 3 men on a front or back lawn - an elderly man in a rocker, a younger man (quite possibly the elders son or grandson) and a toddler. From: Mrs. J. Gass of Belleville To: Mrs. H. Mueller at 323 W. First Street, Belleville In the postcard, Mrs. J. Gass refers to Mrs. H, Mueller as "cousin" POSTCARD 2 - 1910 - Photo card finisher unknown Photo is of a man sitting on the keel of a boat that is on a rock bed/dry land/could be perhaps the Mississippi River, with buildings in the background From: John Raetz of Evansville Indiana To: John Mueller, 123 W. Main Street, Belleville In the postcard, John Raetz states that he does not like the "Star" (the newspaper in Indianapolis???) These postcards were found in a St. Louis shop in the 1970's and came together in a packet. I am researching the GASS, MUELLER families of Belleville, and believe that: JOHN MUELLER is JOHN F. MUELLER (1953-1920) who married CATHERINE LOUIS (1860-1927). JOHN and CATHERINE had a son named JOSEPH D. MUELLER (1881-1966) who married HILDA ANN MUNIER (1887-1963). I believe HILDA to be MRS. H. MUELLER. It stands to reason that upon their deaths in 1963/66 the postcard to MRS. H. MUELLER and the postcard to JOHN MUELLER (JOSEPH'S father) might have been been in their estate which was disbursed. I don't have info on HILDA MUNIERS parents and therefore no info on the GASS relation. I do have a JOSEPH S. MUELLER (1860-1919) in the line who married MARY GASS (1877-1949) as well as a MARY ANN MUELLER (1884-1971) who married ALPHONSE LOUIS GASS (1884-1965), but I can't connect those facts with these either... If these names ring a bell with anyone, please let me know. If you have a suggestion on how to determine who was actually living at 323 W. First Street, Belleville in 1907-1909 or at 123 W. Main Street, Belleville in 1910 please let me know! Many thanks, Tianne (Koehr) Isenhower

The citation should read born Caseyville Township, St. Clair County, Illinois. This shows the birth took place in the area outside of Caseyville village but within the area covered by Caseyville township. Had they been born in the village/town/city the citation would be: Caseyville, St. Clair County, Illinois Connie wrote: > How should I list Caseyville Township in my family history?
