    1. [ILSTCLAI] free searchable databases
    2. Nana & Papa
    3. Hi Everyone, I found this site after they took all free info off Rootsweb. If you use it as a free database you have to endure the ads or you can pay and not see the ads. I just click the ads off when they come up. They are building their databases so they don't have all the states. Thought I'd share this info with everyone. 1. [ILSTCLAI] Bagley
    2. Lynda Moore
    3. I am searching for information on any person named BAGLEY who was in St. Clair Co. in the late 1700's or early 1800's. My gg-grandfather, James Bagley came to Missouri Territory (later part of Arkansas) from St. Clair Co., Illinois by 1814 with a presumed uncle, Asher Bagley. Asher was a Revolutionary soldier, b. 1762 in NY or NJ, and James was b. 1787 in NY or NJ. Asher lost a land suit in St. Clair Co. in 1807. He testified that he was on the land 1784-1785, but two witnesses testified he wasn't there until 1798. I would like to know if there were other family members living in Illinois at the time. Asher married Catherine House in St. Clair Co. on Dec. 30, 1798. There was a brother of Asher's, Benjamin, who ended up in Arkansas also. I would like to establish a connection to Illinois and then back to Bagleys in NY. Lynda Moore

    2. Darrell & Nancy Giles
    3. I have belonged to many lists over the period of the last ten years and have contributed to these lists whenever I can. I have had requests from quite a few people to seek information in the Ontario, California library where I weekly volunteer. I am more than happy to do this whenever I can, and keep a database of the information being sought. This past two weeks I have found obits and valuable information requested some time earlier and when I tried to forward the information to the persons seeking it, it was undeliverable because they have changed their e-mail addresses or home addresses and not notified the lists or me. Please keep this in mind - if you change your address (snail or e-mail) please let others you have requested help from know it. I feel so badly that I have this information and there is no one now to send it to. Again please keep your address changes up to date with those you correspond with. You never know what you might have waiting for you too. Please feel free to pass this suggestion along to any list you belong to not on the one I have sent it to. Thanks, Nancy Giles

    2. Sam Thomson
    3. Seeking any information on SMITH, Nathaniel, shown in 1850 census of St. Claire Co, Dist. #9 High Prairie, 51 M, Farmer, b. ME. Nathaniel was born 26 Oct. 1799, Bangor, ME, d. 19 Mar. 1877, Red Bud, Randolph Co., IL, m. 22 Aug. 1822, Belleville, St. Clair Co., IL to CARR, Marinda, dau. of CARR, Henry C., Sr. & ARNETT, Mary. Marinda b. 20 Feb. 1811, St. Clair Co., IL, d. 11 Feb. 1860, Smithton, St. Clair Co., IL Nathaniel & Marinda had the following children: Rebecca, m. BRICKEY, William Henry; John; Jane, m. HILL, Josiah P.; Margaret, m. ALLEN, James Ralls; Mary Ann; Robert J., m. Susan O. ?; Cordelia, m. ALLEN, James Ralls; Amos T., m. ROBBINS, Albia; Louisa; Charity C.; Alonzo D.; Madison; Paulina H. It appears that Nathaniel and his family moved to Randolph Co. sometime between 1850 & 1860, as he appears in the 1860 census of Randolph Co. in the town of Red Bud, occupation: Justice of the Peace. I have not been able to locate him in the 1870 census. I have found two likely relatives of Nathaniel in the 1850 census of St. Clair Co.: SMITH, Benjamin, Dist. #9 High Prairie, 48 M, Merchant, b. ME and SMITH, James, Dist. #10 Belleville, 56 M, Farmer, b. ME. Would like information on any of these families.

ATCHISON to Lucretia BARCLAY in Washington County, IL. > > on 28 Dec 1837 recorded in Vol. A and p. 5 I now believe that Mathew G. ATCHISON & Lucretia J. BARCLAY had 3 sons and 1 daughter. The daughter was Rebecca L. prob. born in 1849 (my great-grandmother). The 3 sons were: John S., Geo. Riley, and Robert H. I believe that John & Robert went to Collin Co., TX. and had families. I think that George Riley died in his 20's. I think that Robert was born in 1861, and that Lucretia died shortly thereafter. Mathew G. died in Nov. 1865, thereafter his sons had guardians. 3. List, both the St Clair CoGS website (302 pages) http://www.compu-type.net/rengen/stclair/stchome.htm and the St Clair US GenWeb Project (20 pages including those great Queries) http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilstclai/stclair.htm web pages have just been re-indexed by the FreeFind 'spider'. Scroll down the home pages until you see the Search Box. Every word is indexed. The Search Results Page is divided into two parts. Ignore the first section as it takes you to off-site commercial pages. The results you need will begin with the Bold words Search Results From This Site followed by the links. One helpful hint that allows you to keep the Results Page open/active while investigating all the links it brings up is to open a new browser window. You can accomplish this by placing your cursor over the link you want to explore, then RIGHT click with your mouse. In the pop-up box that appears, click on Open In New Window, and the linked page will appear in a new browser window. When you are done with that page, simply close it out. What remains will be the original FreeFind Results Page, no clicking the Back button to get back there. If you haven't checked your surnames in the last few months (actually days) it would be good to do this at your next opportunity. Search tips: the search will only return those names spelled exactly as you enter it. Use only one word for the search, repeat as necessary. [This is a drawback when trying to locate the name of a church. In that case it is better to go directly to the page describing that resource.] It has been sometime since either site was indexed (my oversight as I thought it was automatic). Diane
