    1. Delilah WOODS STOOKEY HOLCOMB?, b. about 1828
    2. Debbie Vietzke
    3. Hi all, I would like to verify the birth date and ancestors of Delila(h) WOODS STOOKEY, born about 1828 in SCC. She appears in the 1850 US Census living with John and Susan(nah) (HILL) WOODS (m. 1827) along with Columbus STOOKEY, age 1. In 1851, this same Delila STOOKEY is married to Lewis HOLCOMB and appears in the 1860 census with her son Columbus STOOKEY. It would appear that she is the daughter of John WOODS, however I am not sure that Susannah is her mother. John WOODS was previously married to Delilah HILL( m. 1808), and it would seem unlikely that Susannah would name her daughter after a former wife. I have many more questions (what happened to the first wife Delilah HILL WOODS?). Debbie V.

    1. John II WOODS descendants
    2. Debbie Vietzke
    3. Hi all, I am interested in contacting WOODS researchers in St Clair County, I am hoping that someone may have a Probate record for either John WOODS or William WOODS (see below). I do have the "Petition of Elizabeth WOODS in the matter of the Last Will and Testament of James M WOODS" which I would gladly send a copy to any interested family member. (James Marion WOODS, son of John II WOODS). My gg-grandfathter Haynes T WOODS was born in St Clair County somewhere between 1830-1832. He appears in the 1860 US Census as James WOODS, age 30, and the 1870 Census as Henry WOODS, age 38. I have pretty much narrowed it down that he is either: 1. The son of John WOODS (aka John II WOODS) b about 1780 in Nova Scotia, Canada, 1st married Delilah HILL in 1808 in St Clair County, 2nd married Susan HILL after 1826 d 15 Feb 1855 in St Clair County, IL 2. The son of William WOODS, son of John WOODS (above) b 1809 in St Clair County 1st married Malinda SCOTT in 1830 in St Clair County 2nd married Jane Sargent in 1849 (Thanks to Harry Rochelle's Rootsweb family tree for above info) Debbie V.

    2. Also, the Belleville library main branch has copies of the lot cards and an index. I will soon be back in the swing of things at the library and will be able to help folks out a bit. My time this summer was limited by my grandkids. Hard to take an autistic child to the library - you never know what she'll be up to! By the way, Family History month in October will be highlighted by programs on several topics. I'll be doing one in an afternoon session on how to set up and work on a Genealogical scrapbook and will be willing to help anyone who can't make the session. See Lou Ann for more details. Donnell

    3. There are two Holy Childhood Cemeteries. The first you will see on the right just before you get to Mascoutah, however all you see is grass all the stones have been removed. The second and newest is part of the City of Mascoutah Cemetery, it's on the left as you enter Mascoutah behind the school. Just walking around looking at the stones for me was like a family reunion, I was related to or knew most of the names. The grounds crew is very helpful they have records available and know where most stones are.
