On reading Vickie's inquiry, I went to the University of Montreal database for Quebec in 1621-1799. If you do not know this site ("PRDH"), you will probably want to add it to your address list. It is great! The U has extracted and recorded every Quebec surname that could be found in legal documents (BMD, land transfers, etc.) of that time period. You can see the text of each document on which your target name appears for a small fee (about $15 US per month for maybe 50 such inquiries). But you can log on AT NO CHARGE to see whether there are any entries for your target name, before you sign up.
