2. I am so happy that several of you have written to say you FOUND relatives on the site. GREAT!!!!! Re: What can I be doing wrong? Dear NiteOwl - please advise! Try leaving some of the fields blank. My grandfather's brother had his mother listed as : Schamhorn BUELL GEORGE 05/20/1880 SCHAMHORN BUELL M ILLINOIS LOS ANGELES 06/12/1952 72 yrs Nothing came up when I input Schermerhorn which was his mother's name. It was spelled wrong in the database. Also, the church records show he was born in 1875 NOT 1880. We should be used to rotten spelling by now. Just using the last name and various spelling may take quite awhile....but it is well worth the effort if you find a missing relative. I forgot to add the companion database CA Birth Records Records: 24596236 Surnames: 984961 Data contains records from 1905 thru 1995 http://userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/birth/ It's really surprising they give dates to 1995...guess CA has no privacy issues. I ran a friend of mine's name and came up with the birth of all three of his children in the 1980's. This is almost as much fun as having the IL Marriage Index and the Kankakee Cemetery Index on-line. Wish CA would put their marriages on-line too. George Buell had two wives and three children I'd love to find dates on. Do know their mother's maiden names, so I ran out of time viewing all of the pages. The birth index asks for the mother maiden's name, but not the father's name. If I found the marriages, I could probably find the children. Audrey
