Hi! Salut! Okay, I checked the ILStAnne-L archives, so I MUST be going nuts. I THOUGHT I had read some comment by someone on the list that the parents of Nol LeVASSEUR were known and that he and Michel (or Mitchell) LeVASSEUR were brothers. Am I going nuts? Or has my brain just become too bogged down with genealogical information??? Anyways, there is another LeVASSEUR in early Kankakee County: Clemence LeVASSEUR b. abt 1809 in Qubec, d. 12 Aug 1896 in Bourbonnais, IL. She was the daughter of Jean-Baptiste & Marie CHAUVIN. On 01 Nov 1825 in Chambly, PQ she married Antoine ARPIN. Antoine was b. abt 1795 in Qubec, d. 19 Jun 1882 in Bourbonnais. He was the widower of Charlotte BROUSSEAU. (the source who found Antoine & Clemence's marriage in the Chambly marriage repertoire didn't find his marriage with Charlotte, so at this time Antoine's parents are unknown to me). Antoine & Clemence had the following children (that I know of): Adolphe, Marie-Emerence, Flora, Eustace, Fabien, Emma, Franois-Xavier, Edmund, Godfroy, Philomne, & Joseph. Then Michel LeVASSEUR b. abt 1800 in Qubec, m. 01 Mar 1824 at St-Michel-d'Yamaska, PQ to Luce JOYAL (b. abt 1804 in Qubec) had the following kids (that I know of, but I think I'm missing some between Michel II and lisabeth): Michel II, lisabeth, Leo (f), Levi, Charles & Josephine. Any additions or corrections are welcome. Brenda __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search new jobs daily now http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/
Brenda The biographical sketch of Noel Levasseur, published in1893 does not list any parents for Noel. His death records at MBVM only shows the witnesses at his death as P.Monast et Frederic Levasseur on 16 Dec 1879, age 81. I believe P.Monest was a Doctor and his son in law. Accordingly Noel was born in a log cabin at St.Michel D'Yamaska,QP,on Christmas night of the year 1799.His parents, who were French-Canadians,were poor and unlettered and lived in a rude way in the wilds of a sparsley settled region. Without a penny and only his clothes in his seventeenth year set out to seek his fortune. In 1837,Mr.Le vasseur married Ruth Bull of Danville and they had 8 children. The cemetery records of MBVM show Noel Levasseur, birn 1799,died 1879. INSCRIPTION reads . In memory of the first white settler in Kankakee County. a Bientot Jack Langlois ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brenda Hébert" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 30, 2002 11:30 AM Subject: [ILSTANNE] LeVASSEURs of Kankakee County > Hi!
