    3. Cindy -- For future reference, when writing a query it helps a LOT if you can put years in. For instance, you state you found Prudence as a widow in the Kansas Census -- what year(s)? Also, when was Henry born? Thankfully, there IS a reference book which condenses the French-Canadians which appeared in the Kankakee and Iroquois Counties Censuses in 1850, 1860, 1870 & 1880, but if I had had to go through them all manually, it would have taken me a looooooong time. :o) I DID find a family -- I don't know if it is the correct family, though, because I have no years to compare it with. You stated that the father's name was "Norris". There is no French name of Norris, but it does sound like Narcisse which IS a French name. I also know from experience that one Anglization of the name Narcisse is "Nelson", soooooo that being said, this is what I found in "French-Canadian Families of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties, Illinois" by Rev. Albert H. Ledoux, on page 149 (in the First Edition): Under Kankakee City, 1870 ST. PETER 01936 Frank 57 day labor C[anada] Eliza 48 C. Frank 14 C. Georgiana 16 C. Nelson BENMORE 25 farm laborer C. Jane 23 C. Nelson 4 Ill. Henry 1 Ill. Apparently they lived with a St. Peter family -- I don't know if that's Jane's family, or they worked on the St. Peters' farm, it doesn't state relationship in the 1870 Census. I don't see them in the 1880 portion of Fr. Ledoux' book, but that doesn't necessarily mean they weren't in Kankakee in 1880. Don't know if this helps, but it LOOKS like your family. Henry was born in Illinois according to his death certificate, his parents were born in Canada. Also Henry had a sister named Rosalin who married Louis Roi (Roy). I've located these folks in the Kansas census but not in the Illinois census. I would appreciate any help in locating info on them. I've been given info on them by cousins that differs greatly from what I've found in the census records so any hekp would be appreciated. 3. Henry Benoit married Louisa Cyre in Kimeo, KS in 1878 and they are in the 1880 census for Washington Co. According to Henry's death sertificate he was born in Kankakee, Ill. in 1851, His mother's name was Lizza denoyer/denoire. I found a Lizzie Denoyer in the KVGS Co. Death Records Index, I don't know if this is the same person since her name is Prudence on the Kansas census records. I think Henry's father had died before they moved to Kansas.I haven't found him on any census records for Ill. He supposedly had only one sister which is still in debate with some relatives. Her name is Rosalie (Benoit) Roy, she was born in St. Gregoire, Can in 1848 and married Louis Aime Roy in 1867 in St. Mary, Beaverville, Iroquois, Il., they had one daughter, Alice. They also appear in the 1880 Kansas census. I hope this helps it would really help to finally put this peice of the puzzle in its place. Thanks for your help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brenda Hébert" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 05, 2002 9:34 PM Subject: Re: [ILSTANNE] Re: {not a subscriber} Searching for benoit > Cindy -- > > For future reference, when writing a query it helps a LOT if you can put years in.
