Becky Glad to finally be able to sit and do a little genealogy. It seems that we are bonifide grade A number 1 cousins. I am listing a descending chart what I have on the Chartier line. This does not include any notes. It appears that some of the Chartiers had changed their name to Sharkey after coming to Illinois . All I had to go on was the death certificate of John Mitchell and it listed his parents as John Mitchell and (Sharkey ,no first name). So then John Mitchell became Joseph Michel and ? Sharkey became Marie Chartier . They are listed on the 1860 censes of Kankakee County,IL. They are also also listed in the marriages of L'Acadie,St.Jean Sometime about 1870 they moved to Remington,Ind. I found a baptism for Joseph at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Keeseville,NY. Perhaps they are buried at Sacred Heart Cem. near Fowler,Ind. I also have a Boudreau line that some members went to Cloud County,Kansas There were a few of the Regnier line. It seems that about 1870 ish there was an exodus from the Kankakee area to Cloud County, Kansas and many were later to return to Il and Wisconsin. My guess is that those who moved were second sons or later who who not be in line to inherit a farm . There was probably free land in Kansas for homesteading. I heard one story that one family who had moved to Kansas were in dire straits ,trying to farm and wanted to return to IL but had no money. So they sold their dog for 5 dollars and bought train tickets back to IL.
