    3. Don - I was originally searching in a database I just discovered at ancestry.com, but I found Napoleon in only one place http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/index.html they also listed an alternate name - Napoleon/Lecuier I found this in the databases that the state of illinois has on line http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/datcivil.html could be him - FECERIES, NAPOLEON PVT D 76 IL US INF BOURBONNAIS While this may be a correct surname, I've never seen it before....... The information at ancestry is not completed yet, so maybe he will show up at a later date. The closest entry they have right now is for Name: Napoleon Lemier , Residence: Bourbonnais, Illinois Enlistment Date: 28 July 1862 Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE Side Served: Union State Served: Illinois Unit Numbers: 399 399 Service Record: Wounded Enlisted as a Private on 28 July 1862 Enlisted in Company D, 76th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 22 August 1862. Mustered out Company D, 76th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 22 July 1865 in Galveston, TX I'm not sure if this would be him, since Lemier is an actual surname, so maybe not a transcription error, but it was the only Napoleon from Bourbonnais listed in the ancestry database. There were 3 Napoleons from St. Ann, but they were in a different unit. I did find some information on the 76th Infantry. The Illinois Civil War Project - http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcivilw/ info on the 76th is here - including regiment history from 2 different sources. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcivilw/reg_html/076_reg.htm with a history of the unit here http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm You can order Napoleon's records on line now from NARA http://www.archives.gov/research_room/obtain_copies/veterans_service_records.html Hope this helps some, Lisa llepore@comcast.net ----- Original Message ----- From: <dgranger02@aol.com> To: <ILSTANNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 25, 2005 2:28 AM Subject: Re: [ILSTANNE] Civil War - Kankakee residents - Company E 53rd Regiment > Bonjour Lisa, > I am assuming you have local civil war records.
