    1. Re: [ILSTANNE] Churches
    2. I have a complaint about St. Rose's, though. Yes, they may have a nice church, but they are VERY reluctant to help genealogists. My great-grandfather, his parents and his grandparents are buried there, but sadly the grandparents don't have headstones, so I can't find information through the cemetary on when they died. I thankfully saw a snip in the KVGS newsletter about a probate notice on my gr-gr-gr-grandfather's estate, and so I was able to find out when he died and that he is buried at St. Rose, but I wasn't able to get a copy of the death record until one day a new woman was working in the office and she was very kind and photocopied the death record in the books. But I still have not been able to find out when gr-gr-gr-grandmother died. >From what I understand they won't do the research without a substantial amount of money (per person or per record), they won't let a genealogist go through the old books because they're "falling apart" and they have "private information" in them. Yet, they won't do anything to preserve what information is in the books, either -- and that is one of the oldest churches in Kankakee County -- they have records predating most of the County records. I don't know if they have changed in their attitude, but that has been the attitude I ran up against when trying to do research on my Kankakee ancestors. I know more about my ancestors in Québec than I do about them in Kankakee! Sorry for venting, Brenda
