This is a dandy. i've been usnig the library edition of ancestry.com on my lunch hours to go hunting for vital records and census films (thankfully, the wisconsin state historical society is right across the street from my office!) and even with soundex variants, i still have missed some of the households i'm looking for. hubert gelino's wife has been listed with so many variants, i can barely keep track of them all. Milode, Milodel, Milodell, Melodel, Melodell, Milosel, Milosell, Melodie, Meladie...and it goes on. then her last name, in my earliest records as Bodric, seems to have also been listed as Beaudry, Bodreau, Boudreau, Bodreaux, Boudreaux, Beaudreaux, Beaudry...there are more, plus mid-life changes through immigration and the like, but just with those, that's 63 combinations! most recently, i was looking for some relatives on my father's paternal side (the Gelino/Beaudry family is on his maternal side) and found them on the 1900 and 1910 census in Martin Co., MN. now, the couple (Clifford and Hattie (Smith) Palmer) were born and raised in WI, as were their children. i've been having a heck of a time finding either of them on earlier censuses, but another researcher was finally able to locate Clifford as "Chifford" in Columbia Co on the 1880 census! silly name variations! -- alyska. ----------- http://www.alyska.net
