Bonjour Audrey, Hey gal, nice going. Ginny and I have been talking about going to St Anne this year and I know we would both be willing to meet with the Rev. Martinez and share our information with him. Carol Anne In a message dated 3/8/00 10:47:16 PM Pacific Standard Time, NiteOwl226@aol.com writes: << Rev. Martinez wrote back asking for more information. I sent a long letter, including links to various sites. This is to follow up on my earlier note; Price is 65$ US which includes ordinary post. I have a copy and it is about the most consulted book by myself and my wife. Seems all our ancestors lived some time in Chambly. If you want a copy please let me know soonest as I expect to meet the lady early next week. I will pick the reserved copies then. Personal check to Marcel Benoit 1200 Colline Bunker Magog Quebec Canada J1X 3W2 Marcel PS In Quebec, there are numerous genealogical societies(60+), and historical societies(75+) in the process of republishing with additions and corrections. If you need a specific area, let me know and I will try tell you how to get the book. Data is rapidly becoming available, unfortunately this information is not usually available except among the genealogical societies in Quebec
Rev. Felipe Martinez from the First Presbyterian Church of St. Anne, has asked for information about our mail list and I've sent him directions on how to subscribe. It will be great if he joins us! Hi Members!!!! I received a nice note tonight from Rev. Felipe Martinez of the St Anne 1st Presbyterian Church. I had written to the Youth Group complimenting them on their nice website. I mentioned our genealogy group and that many of the early church settlers where our ancestors. Rev. Martinez wrote back asking for more information. I sent a long letter, including links to various sites. If any of our group are members of the 1st Presbyterian Church, it might be nice if you would speak with him in person. The church or Youth Group members may be interested their ancestors but have no idea how to research them. Our group has a lot of information we could share. The 150th Anniversary is this year and I'm sure the local churches will all be participating in some way. I don't know if he is interested, but I sent along instructions for joining our Roots List. For our new members...Father Chiniquy was not only a Catholic Priest, but he formed the Christian Catholic Church and the1st Presbyterian Church in St Anne after his excommunication. Audrey

Hi folks, your rep in dear old Quebec Thought that someone might be interested in "Paroisse Saint-Joseph de Chambly""Répertoire des mariages 1706-1990" About mid week next week I will be calling on the lady who sells this recently released book of 443 pages of around 25 marriages per page. This book has parents on both sides and is a big improvement of the earlier Pontbriand marriages for this parish. It is exclusively St Joseph. If interested, please let me know and will provide more details or answer questions. Marcel Benoit bunker.books@videotron.ca http://www.abebooks.com/home/BENOITBOOKS/

I came across a site on RootsWeb tonight that contained many of our members surnames. It says, "249,430 total entries, last updated Sat Nov 6 15:22:24 1999". That's a whole lot of people!!!!!! Richard A. Dutton <nobody@localhost> RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project: Dick Dutton's Master File I quickly wrote to him, telling him about us and inviting him to join our list. His site will be of interest to Les Arseneau who has many of the same Iroquois Co families ...specifically the Regniers. You may also find your families listed there. It's certainly worth taking a look at. He has some of my Goyettes who ended up in Iroquois Co. Audrey

Audrey, What a pleasure it was to read those kind comments from our northern neighbor, and the country of our ancestors. Myrna
I hope no one minds my posting this non-genealogy information. It came from one of my Allie researchers who lives in Canada. It gave me a good feeling to read it. Since most of our members have French Canadian ancestors I would like to share it. Audrey . A View from the North Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record; "America the Good Neighbor:" "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When the franc was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans. I'd like to see just one of the countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas 10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon- not once, but several times-and safely home again. You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here. When the railways of France, Germany, and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to aid the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake. Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those.
Here is the web page for the Gathering at the Theatiki for all of you who may be interested in a "exciting weekend of reliving history". Theatiki1 If any of you are reinactors or would like to get involved, this is a great, relaxing weekend to do so. The location of the gathering is also the same place as the location of "Petit Canada," the old French Canadian settlement that I have been researching for the past 20 years. I would love to see some of you there. I usually give a tour of Petite Canada for the reinactors on the Saturday evening after hours. All of you listers are welcome. Some of the St. Anne families were at Petite Canada before they settled in St. Anne. Goyette, Dandurand, Martin, Brosseau, Giroux, Desnoyer and many more. While I'm on the subject, here's a link to my page for those of you who haven't seen it before.... Petit Canada Project Homepage
