Bonjour Everyone, The PRDH web site was completely redesigned a couple of days ago. It now has complete information and instructions (in english) and a online form to make it easy to subscripe. There is no time linit because the charges are done according to how many hit you make. The web site has a very good explaination of what a hit is. Programme de recherche en démographie histori... Happy Hunting, Carol Anne

And Suzanne wrote to say that she thought one could pay either by check or credit card, that when she was talking with the PRDH people by phone (NOTE!) they had asked her which she preferred. Again, the PRDH is a marvelous site for tracing the origins of the St.Anne families. And yes, I think we are all related to some degree, somehow. I agree with Rick and Carol Anne that it's wonderful fun to trace out the collateral lines and pick up new surnames as marriages take place, kind of an interweaving process. Members of my GUERTIN family living in St. Anne and Kankakee in the mid-1900s always said that while they knew that there was another GUERTIN family in and around Bourbonnais, "the other GUERTINs were not related". Nope, no connection at all! Well, come to find out in these technological times: the Bourbonnais-area family descended from Louis, oldest son of Louis Guertin dit le Sabotier (the original emigrant, married in Quebec in 1659) and the St. Anne family was descended from the youngest son, Paul. A long way back, to be sure, but related they were. So much fun! Cheers to all, Ginny Virginia Crawford list admin - ILSTANNE-L@rootsweb.com VCrawf@aol.com So it sounds pretty civilized and even easy!

I could not find a form to fill out. Greetings! I'd have to go back in to the site to find this exact answer - will do so, but a bit later. In the meantime: I have used the site on and off for six months or so at the no-charge level; I plan to subscribe for a month or two very shortly. Several friends who use the site (in French) a lot have suggested that it's better to get the feel of the program first (the format is somewhat different from what one expects), then one will be able to use the paid time better. One needs to know if one's ancestors were recorded in Quebec in that time period, associated with what legal events -- that is available at no charge. The variant list is also terrific, and is also there at no charge. When I have located all or most of my target names and thought out my specific questions, I will subscribe (i.e., go to the next level) for a couple of months (don't know how that's done - assume plain old credit card) and take a look at the text of each entry (legal event) on which I hope and expect to find information I need or want. So I'd suggest fooling around on the site for a while - check out all those French surnames to see if your people were there between 1621-1799, what the variants were - print out or copy & paste the lists of legal events in which they figured - etc etc - then finally sign on to get the specifics. By that time you'll be so familiar with the site that it will hold no secrets about subscribing. You'll have great fun, besides, I betcha. Best of luck, Ginny Crawford List Admin - ILSTANNE-L VCrawf@aol.com

Thought I'd pass on this letter from Rev Martinez. He is working on a genealogy link page for the church site. That will give us even wider exposure and perhaps reach some of the current families in St Anne. Dear Audrey and Holly Thank you for your prompt responses. Receiving e-mail from you two made me think we at the church should create a page of resources for those hoping to do research on geneology on the families who were (and probably still are) members of our church, town, etc. Both of you have provided me with helpful links. No, I do not want to reinvent the wheel, that's why I'm happy you've forwarded the links. It will be for informational purposes only. I unfortunately do not have the time (nor the staff) to do a more thorough job in the area of the town's families' geneolgies. So, as a way simply to make ourselves helpful, I'll be listing your links and any other information I can compile on that page, for future use by people who may come across our page when doing random searches on the internet. I'll probably get to this project next week sometime. For now, a sermon awaits creation... Shalom, Felipe (Rev Martinez)
I have found many horrendous spellings. I previously overlooked one of my families on a census film I had copied. Campbell was spelled Kembal. My Adeline Lammie was on the IL Marriage Index as Adeline L. Amy. Any variation is possible. Much of the old handwritting was impossible to read, so the names were transcribed as they appeared. I suggest you copy and save anything that even comes close. You never know when it will finally fit in the puzzle. Audrey

I'm was just sitting here scrolling through page after page of very interesting research and comments, when I suddenly realized many of us on this list are "related". I have spent the past 15 years researching only direct lines back to my first ancestors to come to North America. But, in the past couple of years I have been going far out on different branches based upon clues and new information from my Internet family. Even some of the collateral families I have kept in the data base, have become instant cousins when a previously unknown marriage or second marriage was discovered. Is anyone else keeping track? My grandmother always said that all french canadians are related. Boy, she was soooo right. Carol Anne
Becky Glad to finally be able to sit and do a little genealogy. It seems that we are bonifide grade A number 1 cousins. I am listing a descending chart what I have on the Chartier line. This does not include any notes. It appears that some of the Chartiers had changed their name to Sharkey after coming to Illinois . All I had to go on was the death certificate of John Mitchell and it listed his parents as John Mitchell and (Sharkey ,no first name). So then John Mitchell became Joseph Michel and ? Sharkey became Marie Chartier . They are listed on the 1860 censes of Kankakee County,IL. They are also also listed in the marriages of L'Acadie,St.Jean Sometime about 1870 they moved to Remington,Ind. I found a baptism for Joseph at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Keeseville,NY. Perhaps they are buried at Sacred Heart Cem. near Fowler,Ind. I also have a Boudreau line that some members went to Cloud County,Kansas There were a few of the Regnier line. It seems that about 1870 ish there was an exodus from the Kankakee area to Cloud County, Kansas and many were later to return to Il and Wisconsin. My guess is that those who moved were second sons or later who who not be in line to inherit a farm . There was probably free land in Kansas for homesteading. I heard one story that one family who had moved to Kansas were in dire straits ,trying to farm and wanted to return to IL but had no money. So they sold their dog for 5 dollars and bought train tickets back to IL.
